The best time to post and featured listings

I usually post well after midnight PST. Do you have observations when is the best time to post?  Is it any particular time of the day, day of the week?  What is your experience? I would appreciate your comments.

My second questions is how are posts selected as featured? Who does it? Is it dependent on the number of points you collected? It would be nice to understand the process. Good night!

Arthur, I usually post very early in the morning, then get on with the rest of my day. I would say that the best time to post is when it's most convenient for you.

But I think that you're wondering, when is the best time to post so that you get the most exposure? I don't know.

As for featured posts, it's arbitrary. If you see a post that you think should be featured, flag it.

Good luck.

I asked the latter question before and never got an answer that made any sense to me. No one seems to know the answer, something about the AR Gods pick the featured posts.

The first question is not so important if you are a good writer. As you will likely have a following and they don't much care when you post it, they will find it. The real answer is , I don't know that answer either, lol

Rather good questions.

There are so many post that we may not get to read them all. A catchy Title gets the most clicks.I do not think time of day matters.

Somehow, two of my posts were featured in my early months.  I didn't think they were any better than lots of others, and I could see no reason why they were featured.  The truth is that I read LOTS of good stuff on ActiveRain that is not featured.  I think we just have to write good content and provide good titles, and featured spots will come.  There doesn't seem to be any posted criteria, and I think "they" keep it that way to maintain flexibility.

posting on weekends, esp Sundays is good as well as early AM, but I can't say I ever time my posts, but have noticed WHEN they post affects their views.

Good content always runs the risk of a feature.  Add links, add photos and make it fun or important to read.  There are four known moderators and 6 secret moderators that feature or flag posts.  Occasionally, a few of us flag posts for features.  The little red flag at the bottom is for flagging for features or for plagerism.  Also rate the post you're reading on a scale of 1-5.

I stopped thinking about features: how they get picked, by whom, etc.  For the MOST part, you see the same names in the featured pages. Period. End of story.

People post when they have the time to do so.  As to being featured, points don't seem to have much to do with it.\

Check any category and you will see blogs there with many more replies than the featured posts.

Maybe the ability to be a featured blog is a carefully guarded secret like credit scoring...

I've been wondering this myself...   are there members here who actually work for Active Rain that we could ask directly?

Leon, I finally found the flag (see below)!

William, there is a little mystery to it, I have to say...

Thanks Gita for the feedback.

Margaret, thank for advice. It seems to be "fluid" on purpose, as it is not posted anywhere. It might be the right way, but I am curious why.

Janie, thank you for the feedback.

Chris, I am blind - I finally noticed the flag! Where do you rate the post?

Kathy "Kat" - I hope it is not the case.

Thank you Steven. This is very encouraging.

Bill, thank you for a good point.

Aubrey, thank you. Maybe we can ask Caleb about it?

i'm not that experienced but i believe if it's good stuff it'll get read.

as for catchy titles, i've seen some where i look at it but click out by the end of the first sentence. i'm looking for some meat and potatoes.

personally i also get very turned off by the negative stuff.
