Unwind the World

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Charlemagne International Properties BRE# 01147470

I turned the TV off last night after a day of media torpedoes bombarded my sensibilities and senses.  It was my way of controlling an out of control barrage:  30,000 more young men and women marching into harm's way--60,000+ more families dealing with the daily uncertainty of having a family member at war.  Cop Killer killed, Sports Role Model crashes and falls off the idol pedestal, More foreclosures on the way... and on and on the broadcast continued until click, darkness fell upon the screen.

Actually, I was rescued by my iPhone.  It rang and I answered it.  Hallelujah, it was good news!  Small scale, but good news with the potential to unwind the world one tiny step at a time.  A client wants to write an offer on a house.  I immediately sprang into agent mode and created a plan of action.  It felt good to be back in my element and leave the chaotic big picture behind the darkened screen.

I do not set national policy or make military decisions.  I am not Tiger Woods' moral compass, nor can I offer the families of slain police officers anything but my compassion and condolence.  The housing market is where I can make a difference, a contribution and yes, maybe even help unwind a small segment of the tangled housing mess one family, one house and one sale at a time.

I'm no superhero, but I do love capes--maybe I'll wear one today just for the fun of it (and my own little secret power trip).

The masked avenger strikes fear into the hearts of those who intend to undo real estate transactions. You would look good in a cape.

Great attitude Norma. Yes, it is all about you in your life. We all have the choice to focus on one thing or another. You have chosen to help others. That is the very best choice we can make. Let the other distractions fade away. The very best to you from Seattle.

Great post. So true. It is not going be a Merry Christmas for any of those families affected. But hopefully God will bless and strengthen each family.

Good Blog. Good for you turning off the fear factor box. Doesn't the media just intrigue us all? CNN, MSNBC and Fox all seem to present the fear factor in all the viewers, or most of us. I won't even watch those channels. I must say, you did forget to mention one other issue: The White House Crashers:. Aren't they a cute couple? I think they should be fined heavily or even some jail time since their story doesn't seem to produce an invitation. I know how it works, I was involved in national politics for a long while and I know what you have to go through to get an invitation to anything in Washington. Either you have an invitation in your hand or you don't. E-mails are not an invitation. It doesn't matter that the Secret Service messed up. These people knew they did not have an invitation.

Hi Norma,

I think you hit the nail on the head, staying positive and contributing where you can.  My son, college student in last year of Astrophysics major is enlisting, I think in the Airforce.  He basically grew up in laguna beach, atteded laguna high and of course is smart was accepted to alot of top schools and attended.  Then told me 2 week ago he always wanted to enlist.  As a mother, I have been crying ever since, and said you are too smart, you are suppose to get your graduate and then Phd and then on to bigger and better things.  After trying to cool down, all I can do is support his decision.......with tears in my eyes!  I hope he isn't sent into battle and that he is groomed for the "brainy" responsibilities!  More tears as i type this.

Christine - We're kindred souls.  I, too, tried to talk my youngest son out of enlisting in 2004 to no avail.  He served four years in the Marines and did two tours in Iraq searching for and destroying IEDs (roadside bombs), one of the most dangerous jobs in the war.  Talk about not sleeping for months...

We need good soldiers and as my son the Marine said, "Mom, whose son should go?"  He felt called and all I could do was offer support and feel immensely proud of his desire to serve his country.  Your son sounds like a wonderful asset to our country and his family.

Norma - I can just picture you in a cape, and tights with a big R on your chest. I thank your son for his service. And thank you for raising a young man who can think like that.

Norma,

I am glad that your son is safe!  There are many good soldiers, it just hits home a little to hard!  Please thank your son for me for serving as it must have been a difficult decision.

I've said for many years that I'm not going to worry too much about the things I can't help. Yes, I vote, but that's about all I can do about politics. So I try to make a difference where I am, as you said.
