Frequency of Emails?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Home Tips for Women

The constant challenge is what frequency is enough, without being too much?

To date I have stuck with a monthly handyman newsletter with reasonable success as I want to deliver value to my customers while respecting their time. I've also alternated between things like:

  • Making all articles support a single theme or a mixture of topics so everyone will find 1 or 2 interesting articles where they'll link to my website.
  • Coupons or ... no coupons, and yes when you do them every month and stop, people actually call to ask where to get a coupon.

Here is my December Santa coupon which based on expiration date, I decided to send this week versus waiting for the newsletter ... and wondering if I need to put on blog too?

Some folks say it should be sent weekly. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Weekly, might feel like spam to them, if you dont break up the content.  If you are sending a video blog, market report, a "handy-man" type email, some different info I think every week would be fine, but if you send the same stuff every week then I think your info will be looked like spam.

I think monthly is enough, weekly is a bit too much for me, I can only gauge by how I would feel.

Weekly sounds too frequent.  I would think people would get to the point of hitting delete before opening the email.

Thanks everyone. I think we'll do this one twice, possibly 3 times as we only expect people to really look at it once, maybe twcie & delete otherwise. Will stick to once a month otherwise,

Coupons are always tricky because there's a faction that believes you're Wal-Marting the services, and then there's the faction that would spend four hours negotiating $25 off so just meet them head on.

You might also check with your State to make sure that your coupons have all the necessary information on them. Some states require that you state if there's a cash value to the coupon ("No cash value" or "Cash value 1/100¢"), and some states prohibit certain types of coupons, so if your state does that, the line "Void where prohibited by law" usually suffices.

Happy December!

Thanks Russel, I took your advice and added the extra qualifiers to the coupons which will start going out this week. Happy Holidays to you & your family.

I love it, seem spot on to me. Monthly is OK, if value is there I would want it.

Thanks everyone. I normally do a monthly newsletter and once in a while do these postcards too (spring ahead, fall behind, July 4th and Happy New Years). I love my Santa so went ahead and sent him out just once. I sent 3 times per request of some other folks, but not to my customers.

Looks good from where i sit. Monthly is a good thing. it keeps your clients in suspense as to when the next one will come.

Thanks Robert, I think where I'm headed is an informational newsletter monthly, plus a monthly promotion in a separate, postcard like mailing similar to Santa.
