December 4, 2009/Ladera Ranch, CA - I've been asked quite a bit over the past few weeks when we were going to be putting on this year's annual toys for tots event in our area by the local Las Flores homeowners. Well, my answer is bittersweet. Besides being a neighborhood realtor for Ladera Ranch, I are also a neighborhood realtor in Las Flores, we've always incorporated some sort of service objectives into our business plan. For the homes we service in Las Flores, we had asked our children what they thought we should do to give back for all of the goodness we had received from our clients. "Collect toys for kids.", was their reply.
We have enjoyed putting on a beautiful Toys for Tots Drive for the past 8 years. We have brought in snow for hundreds of kids to play in, along with a petting zoo, pony rides, bungee jumping devices, Santa Clause, food and more. We have collected over 10,000 toys over the years. However, this year, our local association has decided to take the event away and promote it themselves. We were asked to volunteer to help, or to be a sponsor for the event, which would have cost us a pretty penny to do.
So, instead of giving thousands of dollars to the community fund to be a sponsor of an event that we originally founded, we have opted to give the money directly to the Toys for Tots foundation. We give thanks to the Las Flores community for their contributions and to our association for their cooperation and contributions over the past few years.
As a Las Flores Neighborhood Realtor, I'll always be about provding service, to our community and to a multitude of charitable events. We will continue to collect toys in the Ladera Ranch area, where we also serve as realtors.
There is sweetness in the fact that the toys will continue to be collected and the event will go on without us. The traditon will remain and we will move on----Just time to bless in other ways. It's been fun!
