RAINCAMP. The best ROI EVER Received from a 1 day conference

By
Home Stager with Valesca Bogard

Where do we begin ? There was such a huge amount of rich, viable information shared at Raincamp SF it was astounding! Thank you to Ben Kinney, Brad Andersohn and Active Bob! You guys were are amazing. Ben Kinney

Brad's Amazing Family

I have to admit, until very recently, I have been resisting getting into the whole Social Media world….well, this seminar sealed my intent to jump in further. And here I am, blogging. Not only did the message of the importance of social media for ALL business owners ring loud and clear, but the added talents of those named above were stellar. Brad Andersohn and his family rocked us, Ben Kinney had us in hysterics…and so much more. That said, the audience consisted of realtors, lenders, inspectors, professional home stagers, and many other real estate affiliates. Many of whom were twittering away during the day – taking the Word of mouth to the WORLD of mouth.

A beautiful moment occurred with the showing of the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium – one of the worlds’ largest Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. What does this have to do with active rain? Well, if you truly want to know, watch the response of the band whose music was playing during the video above. In short: they were thankful to have their work catapulted due to the exposure during the video. Would that have happed so quickly without social media? Chances are good that would be a no.

In addition to blogging tips, tactics and techniques, statistics, and the discussion of various mediums – eg Twitter, Facebook, and the resources available via Active Rain, a huge number of resources (many of them FREE) were shared. A few favorites that I know we’ll incorporate into our Professional Home Staging and Furniture Rental Business: Tanya and Donna of Welcomehomestaging.com

  • issuu.com – huge library of digital publications. And allows you to publish
  • slydial.com – when your fingers are tired of texting, connects you directly to voicemail
  • goldmail.com – combines voice with visuals resulting in audio slideshows
  • picnik.com – photo editor made fun…and easy!
  • bannerfans.com – create your own banners
  • steprep.com – manage your online reputation
  • avg.com – antivirus & security
  • hittail.com - keyword tool to help drive long tail traffic to your site.-- and don't enter a typo and enter hot vs hit. I did. and am still blushing at the porn it brought up.

Seriously, there were between 50 & 100 resources mentioned! Do you see my head spinning? There was a panel discussion, comprised of Nick Cameron, Janet Guilbault and Jeanean Gendron bringing real-world examples of success using social media as part of the game plan. At the end of the discussion each was asked for their single most important tip:

1)take training – online, webinars, (RAINCAMP)

2)let it flow – be natural. People see through a fake

3)be consistent. Be genuine. Be interesting

Was it worth the time and money? You bet. I believe Wednesday's event was the single best 1-day education I've had the honor of participating in. Again, if you have a chance to attend a RAINCAMP, do it! As Ben Kinney said, "what got us here, won’t get us there”. Blog on

Nice to "meet you all" - those that attended, and those that intend to attend a raincamp ! glad you enjoyed the videos, it really got the message across, didn't it !!!

Cheryl - regarding the "what got us here won't get us there"...my take on that, is that this is a new world. ...we need to keep reinventing and shifting our business practices.

Terrylynn - thanks for the comments ! Sometimes it just takes awhile

There's always a lot of energy and enthusiasm at events like this. I've seen Ben Kinney speak twice, and picked up some great tips both times.

Valesca,

Welcome to ActiveRain and congrats on your featured post!   It looks like you got lots of useful info at raincamp and you are off to a great start with social media here on AR.   I am bookmarking this post and going to check at least a couple (probably most) of the websites you mentioned.  Thanks for sharing.  If you haven't yet, you should be joining the It's Raining DOGS! Great post, Valesca. I echo your comments -- what an incredible power-packed day it was! It was like an all you can eat real estate buffet...and nobody left hungry. My mind still is jam-packed with all sorts of ideas.

If you liked RainCamp, I'd suggest enrolling for the Virtual ReBar Camp in early January. It's put on by the Real Estate Tomato and is an all-day series of 45 minute presentations that you attend "virtually" -- right from your home or office.

They had their first "camp" in November and it was just like RainCamp. They had three "rooms," with different presenters in each room. I believe they had something like 27 different presenters, so you could pick those presentations that sounded most interesting to you. And best of all, it's FREE!

I just got a "tweet" from social media guru Jim Cronin (@RETomato) about their next Virtual REBarCamp (#vrebc). It sounds like they're getting ready to open registration to the event

So if you liked RainCamp (as I did!) or if you missed it or live in a part of the US where such a camp isn't scheduled, I'd highly recommend signing up for the Virtual Rain Camp (http://rebarcamp.com/virtual/). It's supposedly scheduled for Jan. 4th.

Between RainCamp and the virtual camp, I feel like a whole new world has opened up for me in past 30 days!

Well I can see that I'm not the only one that thought it was the best seminar I've been to and was just what I was looking for.  Plan to go when it's in your area!

I agree with you. I wish they had provided hand outs of much of the material.  If it comes this way again I will go again.

Hi Annie, Welcome ! What would I suggest bringing to Raincamp...hmmm...a few random thoughts....

While I know we all learn and retain differently, there are a few basics: - get out there and become familiar with the social media applications most utilized within the industry. To name a few:  Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn. Active Rain has some fabulous webinars available, and for newbies invaluable.

Bring:

  • open mind and willingness to think that some of the discussion could in fact have relevance to your business practices (even when at first impression it's a whaaaaaaaaaaaaat ?)
  • loads of biz cards
  • Protein snacks to boost brain power throughout
  • Folks were twittering away and linking up from the outset
  • ...and  I find having had my laptop there was invaluable. I plugged in the resource web-sites as mentioned to bookmark and recall easily.

Keep in touch, let me know how it goes for you.  All fodder for a future post? we'll see

Valesca, really great recap of the event especially since you included several of the lessons learned at the event and did such a great job of linking - a mix of general interest and keywords linking to your business.  You listened an d I know this will make the best staging furniture rental business in California (and Welcome Home is just that!) even more successful.
