Hi Folks, its time again for the Kansas City Sourthern Holiday Express.  This is the ninth annual run.  This year it will go through 22 communities in 8 states, including Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas and Illinois.  Access to the Holiday Express train is free and open to the public.

These pictures were taken in Edna Texas about 3:00pm on December 5th, 2009.

Holiday Train #2

This train has two cute cabooses.  You don't see many cabooses anymore.

They also had a cute gingerbread man car.

I think Santa stepped away to deliver some gifts.

The Kansas City Southern Holiday Train engine has lights all over it.  It must be spectacular at night.

In addition to bringing Santa Claus and his elves to many communities, the Holiday Express also has a charitable component.  At each scheduled stop, The KCS Charitable Fund will make a contribution of Walmart gift cards to the local Salvation Army to provide warm clothing for children in need.  Thanks to contributions from KCS' employees, vendors and friends, The KCS Charitable Fund raised $112,825 in 2009 to purchase gift cards.

For more information go to http://www.kcsouthern.com/en-us/GeneralPublic/Pages/HolidayExpress.aspx.  You can also see a schedule of stops.  Hope you can see it in person.

Hey Dale, I guess your sons still live in Missouri.  It must be great to be able to see the train each year.

Hey Dianne, sorry the train doesn't make it over to your part of the country.

What a great way for the railroad to spread some holiday cheer and give back to the community! Their generosity is impressive.

I used to live in Edna many years ago and hang out at the old depot watching Southern Pacific trains. Good to see KCS there and running Christmas specials.
