Baby, it's Cold Outside!

Baby, It's Cold Outside!

We have had some seriously cold weather the past week or two. Currently, (according to the Weather Channel), the temperature in Colorado Springs, (about 6500 feet in elevation), is 4 degrees below zero, windchill of 17 below.  Of course, here in Woodland Park, at an elevation of about 8400, it is colder, 10 below zero, windchill a balmy 33 below.

The last time we had weather this cold was in the early 1900's.

I didn't sign up for this....LOL

However, the cold weather does make for some interesting photos, as long as you are willing to go out in it!

Fountain Creek runs down Ute Pass on US Hwy 24, thru Manitou Springs and down into Colorado Springs. I took a ride to where the creek is just above Manitou, and stopped at a pull out to get these shots.

Do you know how hard it is to shoot with big wooly gloves on?

Or how long it takes to get frost bite if you don't wear them?

Check out this chart from the Weather Channel, and stay safe!

You could make a ton of margaritas with this...

Debi,

You are braving the weather for us to take those once in a century photos of your area in the cold zone!  I can tell you are one brave woman and no cold weather will stand between you and that next great shot!  :)

Make sure you stay warm and despite the added difficulty, please use the big woolly gloves, at least between two photos!  :)

Hi Debi !  Awesomely beautiful!!  Yes, a tad bit chilly, but think about all those margs  LOL!! I agree, it's pretty difficult to do a lot of things with those big wooly gloves, but you did a wonderful job.

Hey Everyone! I would address each of you personally - but my fingers are too cold! LOL Seriously -I appreciate all your great comments, and I'm grateful you stopped by for a visit :)

According to the National Weather map, the only warm place in the country is southern Florida - Maybe we should all go visit our AR Florida friends! WhooHoo!

I'll bring the ice for the margaritas!!!!!!!!!

Debi

PS Craig - Well, when you put yourself out there.....ya gotta deal with the risk! LOL

Hi Debi,

Incredible photos.  I am amazed that it doesn't get colder at that elevation, or does it get much colder when it hits January or February?

Debi, Those pictures are incredible!  Wow, I feel SO sorry for you with temperatures so low!  I need to remember to count my blessings when it's 32 or above here....the winters seem to get colder (and longer) every year.

Hi Sharon, No we don't have bitter cold here as a rule. Our winters are typically fairly mild.

Hello Gene - Did they say where? LOL

Hello Carole - Never thought I'd be looking forward to 32! It's supposed to be in the teens today here - and I'm thrilled. Boy, is that a sad commentary, LOL

Debi you provide such great eye candy.  I too love to capture frozen water, there is a kind of waterfall nearby that I hope to capture this winter.

Good Morning,

Gosh, I am sorry I missed this one. Those ice formations would sure be welcome here in the mountain regions, so when the ice melts, we would get the benefit of the water as it migrates to the lower areas here in Southern California.

These photos are stunning Debi.

Jennifer - Glad you liked it! I am anxious to see your waterfall - they're so beautiful....
