Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
As I take time out to remember those who lost their lives on this date in 1941, I wonder how many of us are left who were directly affected by that war.
It seems that America is always in a war.
On December 7th of 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan, my parents had been married five months and I wasn't due until June of '42. My father received a deferment until I was born and then he went to war. I saw him as a total stranger when the war ended in 1945.
How many of our young people grow up without their fathers or mothers or are separated through periods of war?
Maybe it's time to get the job done that we went to do and stop trying to build democracies in the countries we conquer? We seem to have lost sight of our goal, and after we win various wars, we end up staying and trying to convert these nations to our way of life. How many decades does it take to convert people who have grown up under dictators and have never known the meaning of free choice to be comfortable in speaking out? We still have troops in Japan, Germany, Korea, the Philippines, Cuba and how many other countries.
I don't mean to expound on my political views, but now that Lou Dobbs is gone, who is there to talk to?
God Bless America and those who protect her.
