What Do Consumers Want to Learn from You? Find Out with Bit.ly!
I loved Steve Chain's post about bit.ly! Bit.ly is a great way to track results and I have another tip for those wanting to take advantage of it!
Whenever I write a blog post, I take the following steps:
- I post the long url onto the bit.ly site, which changes it into a shorter, trackable url.
- I then post a comment on both Twitter and Facebook about how I have written a blog post and the subject. I include the shortened bit.ly url.
- I wait 24 hours and then go back to bit.ly and check my results.
For example:
I wrote a post recently on the extension of the First Time Homebuyer's Tax Credit:
The long url looked like this: http://activerain.com/blogsview/1324219/home-buyer-s-tax-credit-extended-and-expanded-it-s-official-
The bit.ly shortened url looks like this: http://bit.ly/6orKfS
Here's the bit.ly tracker information:
Very cool! 375 people read that particular post! And bit.ly can even track the location of the viewers!
Bit.ly helps me understand what people WANT to read and what they DON'T WANT to read! My time is more efficiently spent working on posts that consumers will care about! And who doesn't want to maximize their precious time!?!?
