Miriam, Algiers Point is actually part of New Orleans, but on the West Bank of the Mississippi River.  If you take the ferry from Canal Street, it drops you right in the Point or you can drive across the Crescent City Connection (not as much fun as the ferry!)

Sooo cute! But I'm curious, is it a duplex? It's architecture looks like it could be 2 homes side by side? 8 fireplaces??? Wow!

Jane, the Saints are now 12-0!  WHO DAT!!  The city is going nuts right now with Saints fever.

Thanks, Russell :)  I know that you are pulling for Drew Brees!

Colleen, it used to be a double (or duplex) but was converted to a single family home at some point, which is fairly typical for the area.  Fortunately, over the years no one covered up or removed the original fireplaces, even though they are no longer functional.  This is the second oldest neighborhood in New Orleans (only the French Quarter is older), and the architecture in the community is just incredible.

I love the character of the home. 8 fireplace fronts seems like a lot is that typical?

Terry Bonnie, when these houses were built, fireplaces were the only form of heating.  Originally, this was 2 homes - a double/duplex.  Over the years, people have added central air and heat, but the fronts and mantles have remained in place (or been replaced from the salvage yards).  Architecturally, these homes are just stunning....they just don't design and build houses like this anymore.

You are right Lisa.... they do not build houses like they used to... Back then, the houses were built to last for generations!  I like the nooks and crannies of homes like these... much character.
