Decision Making Time

If you read my last blog you know that I talked about coming to the end of the year and the decade. But there is so much to look back on as we come to this end of a year and decade, yet so much to look forward to as well.

As my colleague and I were just talking about before I turned my chair around to write this blog, we are where we are because of the decisions we've made. The first time I heard that I wanted to literally punch the dude that said that in my direction. But it's an undeniable truth! We make decisions based on the information we have at the time and the mindset that meets that information. If we're not as sharp as we could be, or just plain stupid at the time, we make silly decisions that can last us the rest of our lives. Conversely, if we're at the top of our game and awake when it's decision time, we make good decisions that have a great impact on ourselves and those around us. We make our family proud of us and happy to be in our company all of the time. And of course there's that opposite position too.

In my past life I spent 20 years a Crisis Counselor talking to people who had jus experienced a really day. Let's just say you didn't walk into to my presence with a smile on your face. What I dealt with on a daily basis were people who had paced themselves into a situation that for some became life threatening to them. If I ever tried to point out that decision making thing to them, it was categorically dismissed as fiction. But that didn't make me wrong, as it's not my idea; I'm just repeating something I heard. (If that ain't a cop out, there ain't one at all).

So here's my parting wisdom in the intent to keep it somewhat brief. Be in the moment when you make the decisions and goals for 2010. If you've ever read the book Acres of Diamonds, you'll know not to dismiss what's right in front of you as you look into the future. There are tons of decisions to be made during the next three weeks as we make our plans, so pay attention and don't get into a rush. If it's a big decision take out a pencil and paper, or even take a walk or a drive even. But make sure you're making a solid decision based on a solid thought process. The guy on skid row didn't plan to be there, but there he is. It's been said of you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Without a solid plan to follow, you become a rudderless boat tossed around by whatever wind blows your way. Don't let that be you and make a plan soon if not today.

Am I a great life coach or what? How much did you pay for that advice from another person? I just gave you an entire life for free. But donations are always accepted. (Oh God please!!)

Go out and make it the best year ever, you deserve it whether you think so or not.

Love ya big bunches!! Here's to a great New Year.
