All about Me: Carmen Rivero

By
Real Estate Agent with La Rosa Realty

I received an email from Teri Eckholm about 2 weeks ago telling me that I had been tagged and that I had to write a meme .  I have had a very average life and I had to think for a while of 5 interesting things you do not know about me.  Here is what I could come up with:

  1. I worked as an intern in an oil company after I graduated from a Technical High School in Venezuela.  I was in charge of the daily routine of the tugboat department (making the schedule, ordering supplies, doing reports, etc).  While I was there I got to tour a submarine (a working one), an oil tanker, a merchant ship, a ferry, a yacht, and a tugboat, of course.  The best part of the job was the view as the office was on the 3rd floor and I could see all the Oil tankers with flags all over the world, being pushed and pull by the tugboats.
  2. My real last names are actually Villarroel Danields, Villarroel for my father and Danields for my mom. As you can guess Rivero was borrowed from my husband =)
  3. I have 3 children, 2 boys (14 & 15), and a little princess (6). They are the most amazing people I know because of their, IMO, above average wit and intelligence.  If you need proof I will send videos and report cards on request ^_^  Of course I am biased, I am their mother!
  4. When I was about 5 I was riding a tricycle inside the house and, I don't know how, tripped and fell hitting the floor with my chin (I never saw a carpeted floor until I came here).  I was taken to the hospital and had about 5 stitches on, since then I never rode anything with 2 or 3 wheels again.  Sad but true, I do not know how to ride a bike =(
  5. When I was a child, between the ages of 8 and 11, my mother would take me to the doctor and ask for some kind of medicine that would make me eat.  Apparently I was extremely skinny and very tall (for my age).  Now she thinks that all the vitamins, elixirs and supplements I took then are taking effect now, I love eating and it shows. hey, who am I to contradict my mother?

I hope I did not bore you too much.  If still you want to know more about me and my professional qualifications to sell or help you buy real estate then check my profile here.

Lucky, I wish I could ride but I am too afraid now.  Thanks!

Teri E, everyday was interesting, but sometimes in a bad way (riots, people trying to overthrow the government, food prices duplicating from month to month, people protesting all the time)

After all not many 4 or 5 year olds go around carrying a dictionary as their favorite book:-) I will work on my own meme and post it shortly!

Nice to get to know you Carmen.  Not to get political here, but I actually like many things about Hugo Chavez.  I buy Citgo gas, because I refuse to line the pockets of the filthy rich american companies, and I get better gas mileage.  You didn't mention when you came her and why.  Inquiring minds just might want to know :-)

Carmen - another Venezuelan!!  Wooo Hooo!  Was it Terrazzo floors that you cracked your chin on?  I have to tell you that you really got lucky with your "princess"  I have 3 boys - the third one was to be my princess and the age difference is very similar to yours (12,10 and 2).

Amy, thanks, by the way my daughter says hi to you and Katie. =) she has now switched from the dictionary to making greeting cards.

Teri, doesn't it make you feel better when you know is not just you?  Are your kids complete opposites?  Do they eat like there is no tomorrow?  Can they quote from movies and cartoons almost like they wrote the script? or, it is just my kids?  we should create a group just to talk about our kids =)

Terry, I really like how outspoken you are. BTW, I am sure Citgo and the president, appreciate your support =).  The reason I moved here is the same reason most immigrants do, to have a better life.  When I go back to visit I am a foreigner to them, we are gringos now and very proud of it.

Ines, Of course it was, you know what I am talking about, smooth like glass.  Even if you had a boy the difference between your older ones and the little one is noticeable, is it not?  Are you from Los Andes?  Thanks for commenting.

the difference between the 2-year old and the older ones is HUGE and it's like starting over again but we love it - the little spoilt rat (I'm so mean).  I'm from Caracas - tu eres GOCHA?

Ines, my little girl was a surprise and I think was the best surprise ever.  Being a spoiled brat is what they do best, and we love them for that.  I am not Gocha (LOL), I am from Maturin, can you imagine?  Nice meeting you and hopefully we can meet in person. We can eat some fried fish with casabe and drink some chicha.  Have a Great 4th & 5th of July! ^_^

Aha! you did get me!!  My 12-year old thinks I'm mean because I call our little one a "spoilt rat" instead of a "spoiled brat" - but it's all with LOVE.  We will definitely have to meet soon (my husband is from Cumana).  Don't forget the cachitos and the Frescolita. Did you see the COPA AMERICA in Maturin?  I was very impressed.  Enjoy the week!

Carmen, I just came across your MeMe. Great post! Loved reading more about you. Animate...riding a bike is pretty fun. But I know what its like letting go of a fear. I have a 6 year old also. A boy, and he is pretty amazing. Yup, definitely gets the smarts from Me. LOL! Hey....it must be a Hispanic thing. My mom thought I had some sort of illness too. She use to give me these pink pills that came in a container with a blue fish painted in the front. Can't recall the name, but they're well known in Latin America. She used to think those would make me hungry. Little did she know, that I ate like a pig, I just never gained weight. Ironically my 6 year old is the replica of me when I was a little girl. Its in the genes.

Luisa,

I think I am too old, I have tried but I am too afraid to let go, LOL.  I took a lot of vitamins and pills, I remember specially the cod oil, now they make it with orange flavor, yummy!  My second son is really skinny and he is really picky like I was but I do not worry as much because I know it will change soon.  Thanks for stopping by Luisa, nice to meet you too!

Hi Carmen and thanks for sharing your meme with us, it's such a nice way to get to know our neighbors.

I laughed when I read # 5. I also love food but I have to work real hard to stay in shape if I want to indulge my love for chocolate, pasta, Lebanese, Szechuan, etc... I wish there was a magic elixir to keep the weight off.

Marti,

It is all true, I was so skinny that I looked anorexic but that was just the way I was back then all the way through high school.  "be careful what you wish for, you might just get it" that is why I do not mind so much when my kids refuse to eat spinach or broccoli.  Thanks for stopping by!

Carmen,

I had to check out your meme.  I love learning about other people.  Isn't it amazing how events in our childhood can have such a huge impact on our adult life.

You sound like you have a lot to offer and I can't wait to read your blogs......I'm surprised I haven't seen your stuff before.

Have a wonderful weekend.
