As the largest city in New Mexico's Sandoval County and a rapidly growing economic hub, Rio Rancho has certainly come a long way since the days of its shady beginnings as a land scam. The city has managed to do away with the negative reputation it once bore in favor of a new face that serves as quite the anomaly in a land of such rich heritage and culture as New Mexico. Most of the town's structures are generally less than 40 years old - a distinct contrast to the architectural offerings of neighboring Albuquerque! The phenomenal growth of the area in and around Rio Rancho has fueled the popularity of a new nickname, "City of Vision," which is substantiated by the influx of cutting edge industry (like Intel), the development of a vibrant downtown area, and the construction of modern, relatively affordable Rio Rancho NM real estate. And with its close proximity to the uber-historic hub of Albuquerque, the town can justly brag that it can offer the best of both worlds, from the old to the very new!
