I recently wrote a blog post on the So called Free Credit Reports and wanted to follow up. The Free Credit report sites want you to enroll in a credit monitoring service to get your free credit report. This usually runs around 12.95 to 39.95 per month. I think that they are misleading consumers and being sneaky about calling something free when it really isn't, although I don't think credit monitoring is a bad thing.Credit Monitoring is a great way to wort off Identity Theft. In fact I have found a great one from my favorite store. If you are a member, you can sign up for Costco credit Reports and monitoring.
It is 7.49 a month for executive members (I upgraded to an executive membership when I bought my new TV because just with that purchase the 2% cash back paid for the upgrade) and 9.49 per month for a regular member. I have to say that I am really pleased with the service. It has credit analysers and simulators that are almost as good as my Mortgage company credit vendors. It also allows you to pull a new report every month! at 7.50 a month that is less that what it cost me as a broker to pull credit. Maybe cost-co should come up with a commercial credit vendor for brokers?
