To Flea or not to Flea? FLEE!!

Ok. let me tell you about one experience I had.....sit down, cause you're gonna laugh too hard at me!    I and my associate went into a home to view for listing, the home was vacant, and had been for about a month or so.........just long enough.  She and I were wandering about the house when I noticed my foot itched.  I looked down at my foot and lost it!  ........I was wearing hose at the time and a skirt, my friend in slacks.  My feet and legs were covered in fleas!!!!!!!!  UGH! She had them crawling up her legs too!! It was AWFUL!! The best part, or at least its funny NOW.....was when we ran outside and stripped!!!  LOL  I tore my hose off and skirt and she , her slacks.  If someone were to have seen us they would have died laughing (not sure someone didnt see us actually!)  and we would not have cared!  We beat our clothes until we beat and shake no more, put them in a bag and threw them in the trunk.  I lived closest, so we drove to my house and changed clothes, she had to borrow my clothes.  We threw the clothes in my washer and back to work we went!  Now that I look back it was a riot but GROSS!

Tish,

Very funny, I guess this is pretty common.  I haven't had it happen to me yet.  I probably should put some bug spray in the trunk of my car.

When I was office manager at a real estate office in a city not far from Lincolnton, NC, the same thing happened to one of our agents.  Only she came on back to the office before removing her clothes.

I used to do BPO's on foreclosed homes and had the same problem.  Started carrying bug spray to put on before I went in.  You didn't stand a chance against those hungry critters.  Pass the barbeque sauce.

But did the washer kill all the fleas?  Or, do you now have an infestation in your laundry room.  I've heard that fleas can be pretty hard to kill.

David, by the time we got our clothes to the washer, we had beat most of them off!  The washer must have taken care of any that were left as I didnt see anymore! (thank goodness!)

I told you this was a funny story.  We all just glad you got out there with wheps all over you and your assistant.  Question is.... is your assistant still working for you or did she change jobs?  Thanks for the laugh and the heads up!!! Flea spray is a must on vacant houses especially, but some with people living in them too.

Hello Tish,

I think it is a "job hazard".  Funny story, I enjoyed reading it and could picture you guys coming out of your clothes.  LOL

ugh on the fleas. This is the time of year for fleas and I make my husband spray himself down when he meets inspectors and contractors at properties. Some tenants have roaches as well! A City inspector told us that female roaches carry hundreds of eggs that you can carry into your car and home. We have cats and the expense and health risk alone is worth being prepared. This all started the day I had my husband strip at the back door before entering (with fleas). I use hotshot clear bug spray around the perimeter of our home and the stuff kills everything! I live at the beach and we have sworms of spiders/bees and flying termites depending on the season. TMI? I keep a good backup supply of deet spray for hubby to spray down his pants before entering properties.

The worst is when you don't see them while you are inspecting the house.   Then, while driving you get that creepy (or creeping) sensation.  Warning....this will usually happen on an interstate at about 80 mph.  I'm convinced we need hazard pay.

Girl, the exact same thing happened to me once on a Realtor caravan. We didn't notice until we had loaded back into the car.  We ALL jumped outside and stomped and swatted, but we were in "mixed company" so no-one stripped. We saw people looking and laughing at us. ~Pat

I had that happen to me once at a walk through on a house that had only hardwood floors!  How those fleas were surviving is beyond me, but they were certainly hungry as evidenced by my blood-sucking socks....I felt itchy for weeks!
