I recently completed furnishing a vacant home on the beach, in Westhampton NY. It is currently for rent May through October.

I provided everything, including; towels, sheets, accessories, lamps, furniture artwork....everything! The client asked for a "beachy" look, my inspiration was the colors of beach glass. This was a very minimal budget as the house will be torn down after two seasons and a brand new house will be built on the property. What a great experience this was! Stagers are known to be thrifty but this was a real challenge. The best part was being able to include the students from my training program, Staging Training by Design, so they could experience a real live staging job.

Allegra- I'm playing catch up on my Favorite bloggers. I love what you did here.. . very comfortable, just the right "beach" tone without being to "canned". This must have been quite an undertaking beginning with the painting, then purchasing and gathering the furnishings and finally bringing it all together.

Any ideas would be helpful for the following. I have a potential tenant who is looking at a rental in the Westhampton area. The living room in the house that she is considering has a floor to ceiling brick wall surrounding the fireplace with no mantle. Do you have any creative and inexpensive ideas for installing a mantle on this brick facade above the opening of the fireplace opening?

Hi Ed, Yes- this is the house on Sandpiper. I love that neighborhood.

Regarding your potential tenant. I agree those massive walls of brick are much more attractive with a mantle; faciliating accessories and artwork. I have several resources for mantles; Mantles Direct offers many shapes, sizes of stained, painted etc. mantles They are very affordable, shipping is free and no sales tax. I have something in transit as we speak for a client of mine in Watermill that was custom made by them.(Tell John Glasscock -real name- I sent you) I also would advise checking out the Habitat Restore in Ronkonkoma, they have a warehouse full of gently used and donated building materials that are very reasonable.

To hang a mantle shelf on brick, you must use special masonry nails so as not to damage the brick.

Thanks for the tip on the Suffolk ReStore. What a great find! I will definitely check this place out when I am in the neighborhood . It is right up my alley. We used tio have a ReStore in San Diego that I used to go to all of the time along with an Architectural Salvage boutique that I renovated a few home with some superb finds. Supposedly there is a similar resource in Baiting Hollow that I heard Trade Parade contractors talking about last summer... a place where contractors on the East End take things when a homeowners special orders something... the contractor installs it ... and then the owner says, "NO, that is not the look I was trying to achieve." Contractors then remove the items and bring it to this place. Any clue what I am talking about or have you any idea where this is or even if it exists?
