CHRISTMASTOWN USA IN MCADENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA

I have very sweet memories of riding through McAdenville for the first time with my triplet boys.  They were 8 months old and they didn't enjoy riding in the van after dark.  I pulled off the exit and they were screaming and crying! I thought to myself that I was crazy for attempting this trip and I had to listen to them crying for the next 30-45 minutes.  But as soon I crossed the bridge and they looked at the lights and decorations, they were silent and amazed at the sights and the music.  It was peaceful the rest of the ride and I repeated this trip everyday until the closing night!

It is hard to imagine that this is the 54th year of the lights glowing nightly!  It will always be a sweet memory and each year that passed (13 years) by they looked forward to visiting Christmastown.  I look forward to hot chocolate, rolling the windows down and enjoying the view!

One of the favorite spots for viewers is the lake which is situated in the heart of the town. The more than 375 trees which were decorated last year range in height from 6 feet to more than 90 feet.  Only live trees are used.  The number of  lights on individual trees varies with the height, diameter and fullness of the trees.  As few as 500 lights and as many as 5,000 lights may be used on one tree.  The lights are a major part of the display but many efforts from the homeowners can not be neglected.  Each homeowner adds their own flair and decorates their doors according to their own personal feelings.  A life-size nativity scene and life-size figures of carolers, complete with music, add to the effect.

Directions:  From the Uptown Charlotte area, travel south on I-85 to exit 22, exit and follow the signs.

Exit ramp 23 (Lowell-McAdenville exit traveling north will be closed during the hours Christmas lights are on)

You can also park and walk.  Parking is available in the town or the large parking lot next to the lake.

LIGHTS GLOW NIGHTLY: M-F 5:30 - 9:30 p.m.  and Saturday -Sunday 5:30 - 11:00 p.m. December 1-December 26th
