Wondering what to do this winter in the Wisconsin Rapids area?

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Newlun Realty

This winter why stay indoors playing board games. Get out there and enjoy the wonder and splendor Wood County has to offer. There is fun to be had for all ages.

Would you like to see the sights? Why not see them from our many snowmobile trails that are maintained by 10 different snowmobile clubs. If you get hungry through the day have no fear, there are plenty of restaurants that are snowmobiler friendly.

Are you sitting there saying to yourself "but I don't have a snowmobile." No worries. Why not give ice fishing a try? Let our seasoned locals set you up in a ice house, get it stocked, then all you have to do is sit back and wait for THE BIG one to nibble on your line. Lakes Nepco, Dexter, and Wazeecha are a likely shot at an eventful day on the water. PLEASE be extremely cautious of the ice at all times as the state does NOT monitor ice conditions.

Perhaps ice fishing is too risky for you, or maybe you're just not an angler at heart. How about giving one of our many cross country skiing trails a try? There are hundreds of miles of trails varying from private land to state areas.

The Nepco lake area trail is good for beginners at only 1.5 miles long. It is located one-half mile south of Wisconsin Rapids on Hwy Z.

There is also the Richfield area trail 7 miles north of Pittsville on County Highway A, then ½ mile east on Heggelund Lane. There are 3 trails here ranging from 1 mile, 2 miles, and 5 miles. All trails are marked and groomed throughout the winter season.

The Sandhill Wildlife area gives you the opportunity to observe wildlife while you're out on one of the distinct 3 loop trails ranging from 2.5 miles to 5 miles.

At each County trailhead there is a self-registration station for purchasing daily or annual passes. All passes MUST be purchased from the Wood County Park and Forestry before entering the trails.

Do you have kids that all want to do something different, and you don't want to do either? This may be the place for you. Powers Bluff Winter Sports Area is a 160 acre park just 17 miles northwest of Wisconsin Rapids. There is something here for any snow lover to enjoy. Try downhill skiing for the first time after some warm-ups on the cross country skiing trails. Snow boarding may not be your thing but kids off all ages sure like to try it at least once. If you can't stand and go downhill with a lick go down on a tube that is provided for you with purchase of a lift ticket. Still not interested why not try the time honored tradition of snowshoeing. Do you just not like the cold while everyone else does? Why not hang out in the two story stone shelter with all the amenities. Skis, poles, snowboards and boot rentals on site. Let me guess you don't want to walk up all those hills, that's ok you can purchase lift tickets so you don't have too.

We hope that you have a safe and fun filled holiday and winter season here in Wood County.
