Reduce liabilities and save deals by learning to work through environmental issues.

EcoBroker Energy Advantage(TM) - Learn about energy efficiency technologies, sustainable energy options, and mortgage options that award up to $15,000 worth of energy efficiency improvements for a home, at the closing table. Great job getting the word out, Cyrus.  You're one of the best EcoBrokers out there--no doubt about it!

Really want to get this certification. There are only 3 other Realtors in my area with it. I just don't see enough homes that it applies to in my market to justify the cost.

I think the info is great and I WANT TO LEARN IT but I can't make the case as a business decision at this time.

I guess I'll explore it as a niche. If I can develop a business around that niche maybe then it would work.

Thanks you for helping me think this out, in writing.

Hi Christopher,

First of all, let me commend you for taking the initiative to want to learn about green building--this is the direction the market has been heading for some time, and I give you a lot of credit for identifying that fact.  I wanted to quickly respond to your comment about not seeing enough green homes in your market to justify the cost for the EcoBroker designation. We actually address this issue in the EcoBroker training.

One of the coolest aspects of the EcoBroker program is its emphasis on retrofitting existing properties, thereby increasing the existing green housing stock.  You are correct--there are many, many more existing homes in desparate need of energy upgrades than there are newly built green homes--even in the greenest of areas.  A great way to earn repeat and referral business is to help homeowners access the free money and the financing available to upgrade their homes.  New Orleans is an ideal candidate for this business model.  When these people go to sell their properties, they're going to remember you, and you're going to get their business.

You can read about several strategies in this area as they pertain to the newly-passed stimulus in my most recent blog, entitled "How the Stimulus Benefits "Green" (And How You Can Position Yourself to Benefit As Well".

If I can answer any questions for you, please let me know.  I am happy to help.

A neat post, Cyrus! Straight and to the point. I moved to Sequim Washington (Clallam County) on the Olympic Peninsula, got my 2nd real estate license (first was in California), then started my EcoBroker course in 2006 and finished in 2007. For me, it's been a very wonderful designation. Thanks for putting the word out and encouraging others.

I'm currently taking the program and loving it!  I'm learning so much - even my Brokers are coming to me with questions already!

Now, if I can only find a local lender who's actually CLOSED some energy efficient mortgages, I'd be all set!
