One Simple and Short Question

By
Home Builder with CSR

If our government's main concern is making sure that the uninsured are insured, why not create a voucher system. Give each and every American citizen a health care voucher each month that they can use to  purchase health insurance from private insurers.

Why hasn't this been proposed?

I tell people you are one hospital visit from bankruptcy if you don't have insurance. This situation will be debated for years to come. Will it be taken cared of in the next 4 years? I don't think so. And the battle rages on.

Robert,  It is a shame that this is how it is.  I know people who went from good to bad financially all because of a medical situation and insurance situation.  I really do not think the Govt. has the right answer here.  Hopefully it will be figured out someday!

the left can't understand that we want reform, we just don't want socialism to go along with it.

Govmt doesn't like voucher programs no matter how successful they are. Take the education vouchers for example.

I pay for my health care every month, comes right out of my hard earned commission check.

Less government means more freedom, why can't folks see that?

If you cannot afford health care for your family, don't have 4 kids.  Simple as that.

CF - Wow, a little fiesty there to the communists, aren't you. Communists want government to take control of every aspect of the private sector so they don't have to think for themselves.

Good to see you, its been a while.

Thank you Bonnie,

Melissa, what is interesting is that it is primarily the teachers unions across the country that oppose school vouchers. God forbid teachers are hired and fired based on true merit, not that silly thing called tenure. That union cares not for our children or their quality of education. They care for those who pay their bills, the teachers, as they should. We should understand this and realize the it is the teachers unions that have turned our education system into the laughing stock of the world.

What matters here is that there is not one big lobby that would oppose the vouchers, that I know of. It benefits everyone, except big government. Insurance companies would love it as they would gain many new paying clients. Doctors should love it because they would not be squeezed on their fees or their care. Patients should love it because it gives them insurance and choice.

There is no logical reason that I have heard or read to oppose it. Every argument against it can be easily nullified. It really would be an effecient system. There would need to be some more rules for the industry and supplemental policies should be made available for those who wish to buy more coverage. The system as a whole would work very well.

Only a socialist would find fault with it. Even if it never comes to be, we should all demand it as a tactic. By denying us vouchers, the politicians would be forced to show their true intent. It could be a powerful weapon.

I actually do question the Republicans in Congress for not proposing it in Congress and in the public forum. I am no genius and I can see the beauty of it. Either Congressional Republicans are dumber than me or they are secretly in line with the Dems. It shouldn't be ruled out. They have failed us in the past and I believe that they (the Republicans) are frankly no different anymore. It is no longer Dems vs. Republicans it is the people wersus the government. When we take a side, we should closely examine whose side we are really taking.

This is not about health care coverage for everyone.  It's about control.  Otherwise, they would make sure when they wrote this bill with transparancy that it would cover "EVERYONE".

Unfortuantely, with the way it is currently written, millions will go to jail.  Taxes will skyrocket to pay for the prisoners healthcare and physical needs.

The current Republicans in Congress are not behaving as true conservatives.  They are only worried about their own hide and what they will do when they get booted out again.  A few of them speak out against this blasphemy of the constitution but others just sit on the side lines and wait.

I agree with Bob, it is about total control of Americans.  Once they give health care to all these folks who dont even try to work then how could they ever be voted out?

A new version of Acorn will pop up and they will all be running to the polls to vote for free this and that, including health care that I have to pay for because I actually work every day.

This is total bull shit and I'm so sick and tired of what is happening to this country.

Tchaka- why give them anything?

Dont you work hard every day?  Why should you pay for others who choose to live off the government?

Why a voucher?  Do you want to spend half of every dollar you make in the US to support folks who don't even try?

Why should you have to get up every day and work your tail off to support someone else who has zero motivation and is working on a family of five???

Christian,

There is only one thing I disagree with you on.

"I am no genius and I can see the beauty of it." I for one think you are a genius and have from when I first came to AR. I am thrilled to see you back fighting the good fight!

By the way I was on a town-hall conference call tonight with Senator Kay Baily Hutchinson and 6000 of her constituents. She sounded astounded by what is actually being proposed in this bill. I am not a big Hutchinson fan because I think she has not always acted as a true conservative but she is fighting and sounded worried about this actually passing. She urged all of us to contact friends and family across the country with Democrat Senators to speak out about this bill. You are right their agenda is Socialism and nothing more.

Please keep posting so I can keep learning!!

Happy Hanukkah!!

Alice

Christian, what a nasty thing to say about me.  But I expect nothing less from you.  I dont expect anyone to take care of me, because at the moment I am fortunate enough to have all I need.  What I do expect is that as a country we take care of each other.

Terry,  As a country we do and can take care of each other without the Govt. taking control of everything.  Have you ever seen the Extremem Makeover Home show?  Does the Govt. help with this?  I don't think so.  They do amazing things without the Govt. helping.  The Govt. probably makes it harder because of permits, etc...!
