It is December and everyone is busy getting ready for the holidays. My husband Tim and I will be working at the Boy Scout Christmas Tree lot this afternoon and that is alway a lot of fun. People seem happier this time of year (there is always the exception but for the most part this is true). We get to think of things besides the everyday grind and we turn our thought to giving and being grateful for the people and the things we DO have in our lives.
If you DO have time to look, there is a lot of GOOD NEWS coming out. The media doesn't make as much of it as they did the BAD NEWS a year ago. Last week we saw one of the strongest retail sales reports we've seen in years. Think about that. Did you hear that Bank of America paid back the government their share of the TARP funds - 45 Billion. I hear people complaining all the time about "the banks taking all out tax money and doing NOTHING". I had an experience with BofA earlier this year and it was quite pleasant - and now they are paying the money back.
Now good news in the economy will make interest rates start to tick back up, but they are still really low - just about anyone should be able to get a rate below 5% (on a jumbo you would need to look at something like a 5/1 ARM but it's there).
So, home prices are lower than they have been in years, interest rates are very low and if you are willing to look there are plenty of signs that the economy is starting to turn around. With the $6500 tax credit for those people who have not purchased a house in the last 5 years and the $8000 first time home buyer's tax credit, NOW is the time to look at Buying a Home here is Hoover, Alabama or the surrounding area.
