Below is the revised language for the January issue of Arizona REALTOR® Magazine.
As of November 1, 2009, the Arizona Environmental Services Department's Onsite Wastewater Program implemented fees for septic system records searches. Under the new fee structure, commercial-purpose septic search requests-those made by parties NOT the owner of the property parcel-are charged a flat fee of $30, which must be paid prior to the release of records. (If no record is found, no fee will be charged for the search.) Non-commercial septic search requests-those made by the owner of the parcel-are charged a reproduction fee of $0.50 per page. http://www.maricopa.gov/EnvSvc/WaterWaste/OWS/SepticSearch.aspx
In addition, the department has made changes to the ownership transfer program. It now requires that the discharge file number be filled out on the latest Notice of Transfer Form. If the seller does not have the file number, a septic system record search can provide it. If no record is found, the septic system will have to be permitted. Though most REALTORS® do not deal directly with ownership transfers, as these are generally handled by title companies, understanding the process may assist you in providing quality service to your clients. http://www.maricopa.gov/EnvSvc/WaterWaste/OWS/OwnTransfer.aspx
