As a COLORADO SPRINGS LENDER I have the fun of waking up each day in the town where Will Rogers, the famous humorist, has a shrine dedicated to his life and times.

"Alexander Hamilton started the United States Treasury with nothing, and that was the closest that our country has ever been to being even."       ...Will Rogers

The Shrine, built on the side of Cheyenne Mountain, towers over the town of Colorado Springs. The view is spectacular, one can see from the Garden of the Gods all the way to the plains east of the Springs.

"Advertising is the art of convincing people to spend money they don't have for something they don't need."    ...Will Rogers

The mausoleum was constructed to be the final resting place for the ashes of Spencer Penrose and his wife. Penrose was an extremely successful mining magnate and hotel owner. He was an early resident of Colorado Springs and a noted  philanthropist who donated several prominent landmarks to the City. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and the Broadmoor Hotel are two of the most famous. He played a major role in the early development of the City and counted Will Rogers as one of his close friends.

"If I studied all my life, I couldn't think up half the number of funny things passed in one session of Congress."   ...Will Rogers

During the construction of the mausoleum, Will Rogers perished in a plane crash in Alaska in 1935. His life story is one of a kind. Although he dropped out of school after the tenth grade, his successes were many on Broadway and starring in 71 movies in the 1920s and 1930s. He traveled around the globe three times meeting people and leaders from counties all over the world, and was a prolific writer. His fame seems to rest in his simple quips and quotes that he so freely gave. One of the most recognizable is the "I never met a man I didn't like."

"Instead of giving money to found colleges and promote learning, why don't they pass a constitutional amendment prohibiting anybody from learning anything? If it works as good as the Prohibition one did,why in five years we would have the smartest race of people on earth."       ...Will Rogers

Guy...Good historical perspectives about Colorado Springs...I think Will Rogers, as well as Spencer Penrose fully understand marketing for their times.

They both had a different approach, but undoubtedly they both left their mark in history.

I became familiar with Spencer Penrose many years ago when I visited Colorado Springs. As far as Will Rogers, everyone should be familiar with him, including those who gather in the Halls of Congress and other places in D.C. and State Capitols.
