UNCLE SAM WILL BUY YOU A NEW CAR. I'm SERIOUS!

By
Home Builder with CSR

I just saw this on CNN last night. I did some research on my own and it is true. I must first say that I am not a CPA and that you should seek the advice of your CPA on this.

If you buy a street legal eslectric car by 12/31/2009, Uncle Sam will pay for it.

That's right. There are certain qualifying cars that will work for this, but the bottom line is that the government is giving a 100% tax CREDIT for buying this car.

Check it out at www.freeelectriccar.com.

I disagree with these programs and hate that our tax money is being used to subsidize this, however I cannot, in good concience, not take advantage of this offer. It is too good. I have a choice, pay income tax of approx. $6,400 or buy this car. It's a no brainer. I can't imagine why anyone who pays over $6,500 a year in income tax wouldn't do this.

Good luck all.

Sounds like a gret idea. But what about the future. Who will end up paying for this?

Try buying a BATTERY for one of these cars when the time comes.  That'll put the folks in to foreclosure and cause another mortgage meltdown.

If the Government has to subsidize a product/industry to get it to sell than we know it shouldnt be around in the first place.

The bottom line is, the government is giving away tax dollars.  So, we all pay for them in the long run.

Reminder for all.  The government has no money.  They produce nothing, and they don't "earn" anything.  Everything they do is done with our tax dollars.

Man law # 47 states that "No man shall drive a car that does not burn flammable liquids" so im out on this one.

Maybe if I let the wife drive it then my kids can pay for it in 10 years?

Nice find!  Even if I were in the market for a new car, I wouldn't go electric (even with subsidy) yet.  There's been a lot of improvement and I think the next decade will bring about a lot more.  Electric cars are on the way and they're here to stay.  With the torque they can produce, they're going to blow away all but the fastest sports cars off the line.

In 2002 a plasma TV was upwards of $10,000.

I just traded my Lexus RX2006 for a 2010 * I seriously considered getting the RXh and talked to my local auto service "guys" and to a MAN, they said I needed to wait on the technology although Toyota is leading the way....maybe next time!!!

With an electric car, if the power goes out, we have a propane generator so I'd be using even MORE fuel to fuel the car!!!  Now that's a waste!!!

Jane,  I am seriously wondering how you sell real estate without a car.  That would be nice!!  Plus I have three kids to haul around to sporting events ALL the time.  Don't see how I could do it!

I don't care if it is free.  I'd have to store it more than half the year because that thing isn't going anywhere November - April in Alaska.

John, I am Mainly a Listing Agent in my Neighborhood and I live Downtown. When I have Buyers I let Them Drive to get the lay of the land. I do very little business out of the City Center. When I need a car I just rent one. No kids to Haul around.
