The Fourth of July is now over. I have been reading various blogs for the past two hours. Logging on and off. I wanted to share my first blog but was still uncertain and skeptical about the subject that I would choose. I kept telling myself everyday for the past two weeks of real Active Rain participation that I was going to write my first blog. I have exited out of the Active Rain site several times tonight and than it hit me. I want to ask all of you, do you appreciate the commitment that the men and women in armed forces have made for each of you and our country?
I am an Exclusive Buyers Agent (which by now you probably know from previous comments). When the real estate market here (MD,DC,and VA) like many other markets experienced that crazy period when home prices were escalating like crazy. It was hard winning conventional contract offers much less trying to win a contract for many of my VA buyers. But, I kept plugging away and submitting offers with clients who were opting to use one of the few VA benefits that they would receive, the VA loan. These men and women took an oath to protect our country and the citizens that dwell within. Why I would ask over and over, will the seller not take a contract from a VA buyer? Why I would ask did so many agents tell sellers not to consider our contract offer(s)? I know the answer, it was because of appraisal contingencies and required VA repairs.
Who do you think enables us to have the freedom to buy and sell homes for clients, for clients to have the freedom to buy, invest and sell homes, who also enables us to walk freely in a country that prides itself on democracy? The answer is the people that put their lives on the line to protect our country and to protect us. I love on all my buyers but I especially have a soft spot in my heart for VA buyers trying to get a home for their families. I wanted to scream to the top of my lungs, sellers stop being greedy and listing agents be fair. If it weren't for our vets, our freedom could be in jeopardy.
Now I know why I couldn't cut the computer off, or turn away from Active Rain for the night. I want to honor our heroes, to thank our servicemen and servicewomen, and let our veterans know how much I appreciate them. I want everyone to honor them. And remember, the next time that we are in a sellers market, remember the VETERANS who have committed to protect your freedom.
