Treasurys Pare Gains On Strong Manufacturing Data
December 17, 2009:
As reported by Reuters -- U.S. Treasurys shaved earlier gains Thursday after a measure of regional business activity posted a surprise increase, suggesting vigor in the U.S. manufacturing sector.
The Philadelphia Federal Reserve's index on business activity in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region was 20.4, the highest since April 2005. This compared with an expected 16.0 and November's 16.7.
The price on benchmark 10-year Treasury notes was last up 18/32, compared with a 20/32 gain shortly before the data.
Their yield, which moves inversely to their price, was last at 3.50%, nearly the same level before the data and lower than the 3.60% late Wednesday
Feds also announced they would keep rates down for a little while longer.
