Caution...Christmas Rushing May Cause Weird Thoughts

Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc., Annapolis MD 21403 DRE# 319853

I love the Christmas season. The decorating, the shopping, the whole nine yards. I am usually well prepared and ready days before the big day without nary a hitch. But not this year. I am way behind. I've been really busy with real estate the past few weeks and though I have been able to get most of my decorations up the shopping part has been waylaid.

So when I heard the news that snow, lots of snow, was on it's way I knew I had to get out there without delay. I mapped out my route the night before and with list in hand I bundled up and headed out yesterday morning totally focused on shopping.

Christmas RushAs I was making my way through my list my cell phone rang. It was a client who I have been working with the past two weeks. A home that she had loved had gone under contract and now was back on the market pending releases. She was so excited. Since I was in a check out line I told her I would call her back in a few moments.

I finished checking out and rushed to my car to begin loading my packages in the trunk, get in the car and return her call. It was cold so I decided to turn the car on while I sat there talking.

We discussed the home for a bit and then decided on meeting early evening to put thoughts to paper. As I hung up the phone I clipped my seat belt all the while thinking how much can I accomplish before I need to meet her. As I put the car in reverse to my shock it drifted forward instead. Oh my...what is this? I then looked at my dashboard and saw my oil light was on. Hmmmm.... I am just at my oil change mileage so whats that all about? Once again I tried putting the car in reverse and once again I drifted forward as I took my foot off the brake. No!!!! This can not be.! I have too much to do for my car to break down on me now.

I nervously placed it in park and called my mechanic. Help!!! After explaining what was happening he said he would be right out to see. So I turned the car off and waited.

My mind went to all the well laid out plans going down the tubes as I just knew I was going to be towed back. mechanic is right next to my office so I will just do some real estate while he fixes my car and then I will be back on my way. Should be fine I thought.

Before long he was there and I explained once again what was happening as I handed him the keys. He proceeded to sit down in the drivers seat and turn the car on. He looked at the oil light on. He put it in moved backwards. He sat there for another minute or so and then said...Martha there does not seem to be anything the matter with your car. What???? How is that? Is it not doing it for you? No Martha it is not. It works and acts fine. Are you sure you had it on when you were sitting here? On?? Well of course I did...of course I....did....???

I stopped in my tracks as I started thinking about what he said. Did I have my car on?? When does the oil light come on in the process of starting I asked? The first click he said. Will the gear shift move on the first click? Yes he said but you will drift forward when you take your foot off the brake. Ohhh... I said. Then sheepishly I said... I guess I did not have the car ON after all.

Oh embarrassing. I guess I was so preoccupied with that phone call and my list and the snow that I thought I had but.... Then I started laughing and before long he was laughing too.

As we parted ways I couldn't help but think how lucky I was. Lucky my car was really not broken down, lucky I have a fabulous mechanic, lucky he has a sense of humor. Lucky, lucky, lucky.

That was a first for me and hopefully the last LOL. But at least I know one thing for sure now....

Christmas Rushing DOES Cause Weird Thoughts.

Merry Christmas!!

You need to keep that auto service person well tipped for as long as he is there and you drive.

An honest mechanic is to be treasured.

Hi Martha ~ I can't believe you have a mechanic who makes house calls. Sweet!

I'm always behind at Christmas but I get it done somehow. I'm way ahead this year - I bought the tree today because of the snow coming - last year I put it up at noon on the 24th.  Like you I hit the stores because of the snow - it was a brutal marathon.  I never go to the mall - especially not at this time of the year - and there I was this afternoon - the perfect storm of mall insanity - the last Saturday with a big storm on the way. Nuts!

With all this insanity - and business wrapped into it as well (hurrah!) - it's no wonder you got discombobulated.
