Warrick Dunn Does It Again With Homes For the Holidays

The Warrick Dunn Foundation(WDF) rewarded another single mother through its Homes for the Holidays (HFTH) program last week in Tallahassee.   Dunn launched HFTH during his rookie season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1997.  His vision was to honor his late mother's dream of home-ownership. There were more than 40 volunteers and supporters on hand as Dunn greeted Wannessia Jefferson, the 29-year-old Tallahassee native and single mother of three.  She was ecstatic as she walked up her driveway to her new four-bedroom home, built by Big Bend Habitat for Humanity.

HFTH rewards single parents who are taking the difficult but necessary steps to provide for their families with down-payment assistance, which helps lower monthly mortgage payments, as well as complete home furnishing to make the house into a home.  "With the help of Aaron's [furniture] and my Foundation's other sponsors, I am able to honor my mother's dream while rewarding people who are helping themselves," said Dunn.

To date, WDF and its sponsors and donors have rewarded 91 single-parents and 246 children and dependents in Atlanta, Ga., Baton Rouge, La. and Tallahassee and Tampa, Fla. who have accomplished the American dream of owning a home.  I'm definitely considering buying his book aptly entitled, "Running For My Life."
