Some Frequent Air Travelers to Red Lodge, Montana

Here are recent birds that I got the joy to observe and photograph in December 2009.

They come in all shapes and sizes and add beauty to the winter scenery.

Falcon in Red Lodge, Montana - December 2009

Cute bird in Red Lodge, Montana - December 2009

Partridge in Red Lodge, Montana - December 2009

Could this last one be a partridge like in the famous song "The 12 Days of Christmas"?  No pear tree in sight!

The closest public airport to Red Lodge is in Billings (Billings Logan International Airport) about 65 miles North of town.   This may seem a little far but the one hour drive from Billings to Red Lodge is a very pleasant one and one with lots of good views.   One good thing about being one hour away from the public airport is that there are no planes that go over the town and you never hear airplanes other than the very occasional private cesna plane.

Happy Holidays from Red Lodge!

Sheldon,

It was a very chubby bird and I could not believe how round it was!

Looks like he may have been fluffing up or that could be the reason he was still on the ground.

Gene,

It did not take him long to leave the ground and fly away after noticing me pulling over the side of the road and taking his photo.

Gerry,

That partridge would make good eating on Christmas!  I'll bet that hawk agrees.

Gerry - I didn't know you had a bird series too.  I quickly looked at some of your bird posts and found that some were posted before I joined and some were posted shortly after I joined so it was probably before I fully utilized the subscriber features and when I was still learning about the rain.

Gerry - I like the Christmas themed borders you have around your birds.  Maybe I'll start taking bird photos next year.  We have a wide variety of them who live in a nice condensed area. :)

Mike,

I am glad I am checking my recent posts one by one on a regular basis since the glitch on comment notifications has occurred (as this one, funny enough, did not show up on my home page).   You figured why I separated the hawk from the partridge with a photo of less appealing prey.   :)

Marc,

Feel free to go back and check out the variety of posts that were there prior to you joinning AR.  I try to revive some of the old posts by providing links in more recent posts.   I find it even more interesting to receive comments from members on very old posts.  Unless of a glitch with AR where it may be spam, the comments from AR members mean they took the time to explore my blog or found my post through a search.

Marc,

When you do start taking photos of birds, make sure to take one or more of the blue jay!  After all, the Toronto professional baseball team is named Blue Jays and I would joke when I was living in Toronto that it was OK to jay walk.

I am glad you noticed and enjoyed the Christmas themed borders.  :)

Thank you Debi,

The first one did not turn out as good as I wanted (not very sharp) but I will admit that birds make good study subjects for photography.

Gerry - Not sure if you know that the Toronto Blue Jays dropped the word "Blue" from their logo a number of years ago.
