Semi Speechless Sunday.....Great Ship....

I am not going to do another guess that photo just yet, rather I thought that I would share the photo that I took of the USS Missouri from the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor several years ago.  This great ship was where General MacArthur accepted the Japanese surrender, ending World War II.  It is moored permanently in Pearl Harbor as a museum.

We have not had the honor of seeing the USS Missouri in Pear Harbor as it was not there the last time we visited Honolulu.  Bruce has been on the New Jersey(sister ship to the Missouri) and he really was awed by the size and firepower as well as the history it had lived.

Sharon, These ships are amazing!  I think that the the Missouri is still in Pearl Harbor, we went 6 years ago, and it seems that was what they told us that it was permanently there now.

That is great to hear from Georgina that the Missouri is getting the attention it needs.  It is fitting that the Missouri is moored by the Arizona, Tony and Darcy.  One ship is highly symbolic of America entering WWII and the other is synonymous with the ending of WWII.  The two should be together!!!

Sharon: this is true about the irony, but it is fitting that they be moored in the same area!

Hawaii is one of just seven states that I have not been to. Since 2009 has been so great, maybe 2010 I'll take a couple of days off and go.

Happy New Year!

The Mighty Mo really belongs in Seattle (Bremerton actually) where it was for many years ... until Hawaii stole it to increase tourism.

But whereever:  It is very impressive.

Personally, I think of it as a fellow veteran of the Vietnam War.

Jim: I am sure that the Mighty Mo does belong in Washington, but it doesn't seem too out of place at Pearl Harbor!  It really doesn't matter where it is, it is a National Treasure!  Happy New Year!

Hi Tony and Darcy, that's a nice shot of the Mighty Mo!  As a youth one of my treasured photos is of the Mo in the "mothball fleet" in Bremerton many years prior to being re-activated for the Vietnam tour.  Happy New Year!  John

John, that is cool!  I am glad that she is getting the distinction of being a museum and was scrapped!
