Village at Western OaksSouthwest Austin:  Besides having abundant opportunities to get your nature on, Village at Western Oaks also has close proximity to retail and other entertainment venues.  Here is a list of things you can do if you live at Village at Western Oaks:

  1. Costco:  If you have a lot of mouths to feed or you're just shopping on a budget, Costco is a great place to get good deals on bulk items.  Usually Costco is inconvenient to most Austinites, as the two locations in town are at the far north and far south.  Living at Village at Western Oaks, you're less than 10 minutes away to a 5 gallon tub of cheesy poofs.
  2. H-E-B:  Austin's favorite grocery store is less than five minutes away from Village at Western Oaks, located off Slaughter Lane and Mopac.
  3. The Shops at Arbor Trails:  Practically a one-stop shopping center, the Shops at Arbor Trails is only a minute away from Village at Western Oaks, located on William Cannon, just west of Mopac.  Here you can find restaurants like Cheddars and Mandola's Italian Market, beauty and fitness retailers like Elements Massage and 123 Fit, plus banking, electronics and medical outfits.
  4. Bowling at Westgate Lanes:  Do you ever feel the urge to go bowling at an old-school bowling alley?  Or maybe even under a black light?  Westgate Lanes on William Cannon features arcades, a bar, a rockin' retro vibe and black light bowling every now and again.  I've personally had a lot of fun with friends at these lanes, be it bowling gutter balls with the black lights turning my clothes neon colors or playing pinball at the arcade.
  5. Darn Good BBQ at The County Line:  The best ribs in Austin are at the County Line, just up the road off Mopac and 360.  If you're a vegetarian, you might not want to go here, or at least don't admit you're a vegetarian because the staff will look at you funny.  The sides you get with your meal is just to make it look like you're not eating just a huge steaming plate of ribs that could very well belong to an elephant (yes, they're that big).  The sweet iced tea can't be beat here.  I recommend sharing the "Big Daddy Beef Rib Platter" with a friend or five; at just over $20 you can get a huge rack of ribs that can feed an army.
  6. Frolicking in the Sunshine at Dick Nichols Park:  This park is a neighborhood favorite and is walking distance from within Village at Western Oaks.  Here you can find a water play-scape for the kiddos (or kiddos at heart), winding hike and bike trails, 17 picnic tables, a multipurpose field, 9 barbecue pits, 2 basketball courts, a picnic shelter, a playground, a swimming pool (open March through September), 2 tennis courts, 3 volley ball courts, reservable facilities and a partridge in a pear tree (ok I made that last part up).

With all this going on within a few miles of Village at Western Oaks, living on the south edge of Austin never seemed so idyllic!
