Winter Solstice in Alaska the land of Extremes ....

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Bay Realty,Inc Homer Alaska

Winter Solstice is officially December 21st  2009 at 8:47 AM Alaska Time

Winter Solstice in Alaska in the land of extremes ....

Winter Solstice in Alaska is important! We are the land of extremes ....

Winter Solstice is the longest night, shortest day .... But most important...

.it marks the beginning of the return of daylight!

Daylight is on the way back! We start gaining about 10 seconds a day and that will escalate each day up to the Summer Solstice where we will have the longest day and shortest night....

What a pretty picture.

Today is the Day!

Thanks for reminding us ... it makes a much larger difference in Alaska than it does here.

Beautiful picture.  I always look forward to the days getting longer.  In Seattle, we're dark by 5:00 or earlier on a cloudy day, and it just seems so short.  I have no idea how I would fair in Alaska.

What a nice picture!  Chills just run up my spine when I see snow, its so beautiful but I really can't stand the cold.  I guess that is what variety is all about: Some like it hot, some like it cold... That's why I moved to Florida, Long Island, my former home is now blanketed with 2 feet of the powdery stuff!  I'll just watch it on TV and avoid shoveling it.

So glad that the days will grow longer for you, that must be refreshing!

Debra, what a wonderful photo, the snow almost looks like it is animated and falling! Happy Winter Soltice to you, not a bad thing to celebrate since it does mean something very important to you, LOL.

I have not been there in December but I was there in June at the other end of the extreme. It was a little unnerving but I was able to fish any time of day.
