During this past weekend, I was able to contribute and participate in a cause that provided free Christmas dinners to deserving families in my home town of Chesterton, Indiana, and the surrounding neighborhoods.
This had nothing to do with providing a mortgage or home loan finance options. This did however have everything to do with giving back to my community.
This time of year can bring great joy and extreme despairdepending on the economic situation. With an unemployment rate that has been higher than the national and state averages, Northwest Indiana has been plagued by hardship to individuals, communities and the non-profits who serve them.
Based on an idea that was sprouted from an old high school classmate, we collectively leveraged social media to raise enough food to feed 75+ families a Christmas dinner they would have not had otherwise.
It was amazing how a simple act of providing a free dinner to those in need could bring so much warmth and joy to those who received and also to those who gave.
