Happy New YearNew Years Eve Traditions, got a good one? New Milford CT and Andrea celebrate the New Year!

My husband has a few different traditions than I do. for one, New Years Eve is when Det Moroz delivers presents, not Christmas. I can go for the whole gift giving event again, I admit it! Over the years we have melded our traditions together and made a few changes as we ourselves change. We don't drink (ok, I might have a drink or 2 every once in a blue moon, but he doesn't drink at all) so that is not in the plan for New Years Eve. He loves to eat, and we usually prepare some of his favorite Russian foods. I make a mean Salad Olivier which is a cold pototo salad with meat in it, I use ham, and we always make carrot salad and beet salad, I beg him to make a deep fried meat pie called Beliashi that will knock your socks off. We eat until we are ready to explode. Blini would be just an added extra to put us over the top. I like mine with either cavier and sour cream, smoked salmon and sour cream or hard boiled eggs mixed with melted butter. Or perhaps my most favorite pancake called Oladushki, I love them cold, warm, anyway you want to make them for me!

Father TimeUsed to be at midnight we would write our wish for the new year on a piece of paper and quickly burn it over our champagne-type drink, then drink the wish. But after a while I just wanted to do something different. A few years ago I checked out traditions from other countries and we blended a few of them together. As the Chinese do, the house had to be cleaned before the New Years Celebration. Somewhere I read about tossing a dustpan of dirt out the back door before midnite, that is NOT Chinese, and I can't find it anywhere now, but we did it. Then we opened the back door at midnite to let the old year out and raced to the front door to let the new year in. Whew, it was hard work. I missed my traditional New Years Rockin Eve watch the ball drop stuff that year! (That tradition I might add is boring, nothing really interesting about it at all!)

I am in the midst of looking for a new thing to do this New Years. So if you have any interesting traditions please let me know! We just might incorporate them into our celebration this year. I am always looking for something different to do on New Years Eve! And remember, I have two chances to celebrate, so bring it on!

If you are in the New Milford area and looking for something different to do, how about an evening at Theatreworks in New Milford CT? Check it out, great food and drink, a wonderful show, and a champagne toast at midnite!

No traditions here, sorry. The last few years, I've been in bed by 10 ish... sometimes I stay up for New York to hit the new year, but I need my beauty sleep!

VB, perhaps you celebrate Burmese style? They probably have some very interesting traditions, you should check it out if you haven't already!

Donna, I struggle to stay awake, LOL, but hey, it is once a year you know. OK, for me it is twice a year...

Hi Andrea - I'm afraid I'm not much help either.  We don't usually do the party thing.  Sometimes we've had a quiet evening with a few friends but often just home doing nothing.

I have no real New Year's Eve traditions other than we always spend it with friends and I always kiss my wife at Midnight.

I hold money in my hands at the stroke of midnight . . . all the change found in the bottom of my purse, cash, uncashed checks . . . this ensures that the New Year will be prosperous.  I've been doing this since I was 19.

Jenny, we haven't had anyone with us to celebrate for quite a few years. All that for just the 2 of us!

Ann, we will be home too, enjoying the evening! And this year we have a little monkey in the house, LOL.

JL, that is a good tradition, LOL.

Hi Sally, that is good. I have struggled at times to stay awake, but there is all this food after all, LOL.

Carla, I knew I could count on you, and has it worked?

Michael, well, that is YOUR tradition!

Andrea,

Chip and I vary what we do to ring in the New Year but as long as we're together, we're content. This year, we're headed to a neighbor's home - you two are more than welcome to join us!

Irene, if only we were closer! The one thing we do not do is go out, at least not anymore. Driving on New Years Eve doesn't interest me anymore. I must be old!

Andrea, I try to spend New Years Eve in a different place every year....it doesn't get boring that way! This year I am spending it in Pawley's Island South Carolina with my best friend, Lynne, the NasCar enthusiast!! Something bubbly is always in order at midnight!

Happy New Year to you and your family!

We have two young girls so we stay home and "party" with them. The younger one always falls alseep before 12. The older one sometimes outlasts me and my wife!

I really haven't had a New Years Eve tradition.  However, this year, my son is getting married on New Years Eve at 7:00 pm.  It will only be our family (26 people or so).  The reception and party is at my place afterward!  I'm looking forward to a cozy evening with close family, good food, and logs on the fireplace:-)

Jim, LOL, that does happen. Good for you for spending time with the girls.

Myrl, does this mean someone has to get married every New Years Eve? :D Sounds good to me though, have a wonderful time.
