Buy a House, Get a Gun

I came across an interesting story on the web.  Apparently a real estate agent in Kansas has come up with a novel marketing campaign.  If you buy one of his listings, he will throw in a gun.  Click here for the web article.  Some states allow inducements, others do not.  I wonder what other inducements real estate agents have come up with to market their listings.  I guess in today's economy, you have to try anything.

Is that kind of like "gift with purchase?"  I feel like I am at the local department store! LOL!

Inducements are an interesting idea, but I think they only work as a marketing tool.  If there was something really unique that attracts attention to the listing then,  that is an effective inducement.  As a buyer the inducement I want is to get more for less.

Jeani-If a real estate agent would throw in Super Bowl tickets, they would have my attention.

Daniel-If you have a gun, you could get more for less, LOL

Katie-That is what the article says.  The agent must know his market

Vern-It must be a safe neighborhood now-LOL

Paul - I heard the home was advertised as coming with a "home security system".

I like the idea of getting a gun with a house I buy... I could try this in some of my rural listings. My hunters would definitely love it.

Kennessaw, GA, requires all home owners to have a gun...  They also have a very low crime rate...  Could be a good plan.

Thanks for blogging; I am that broker offering guns in Kansas to home buyers. You can read the original story here Buy a house get a gun.

I am an avid hunter and outdoorsman, I love my firearms. Mostly I just saw it as a fun way to get a lot of website traffic and some press. (it worked!)

I was hired as the Kansas City real estate Examiner and thought this would be an intriguing way to get some more attention to that position.

As for the neighborhood, you can see by this AR Blog, that I'm willing to try it with about anything. Heck I even offered it with a car wash I was marketing. That house is in one of the more affluent neighborhoods in the Kansas City area.

Everyone needs an angle, I'm always looking for something new and out of the box! I just hope Missouri wakes up and starts allowing inducements.

By the way if anyone is interested in becoming the real estate examiner for your area, please contact me about it. I get paid for all those I refer. It's great you get paid for blogging!

Ben- I think you had a great idea.  I will have to find out if you can offer an inducement to get a mortgage.  Although a gun would probably not go over well on Long Island, how about, "get a mortgage, get two Braodway tickets."
