Last year I started a book club in my neighborhood. I invited 8 of my girlfriends in the neighborhood to join me to find out where we could take this. We've now been meeting for just about two years. My friends and I agree that each of us has read at least one book we'd never pick on our own.
For some books I couldn't wait to put on my reading glasses and get comfy on the sofa and for others I opened my book each night with a heavy sigh. But, the point is that all literature means something to someone even if we can't agree. And, frankly, I have gained something from each one. So, here is our list of books from 2009.
The Red Tent - biblical times, women bonding in a tent once a month (need I say why it's called the red tent?)
That Old Cape Magic - Dysfunctional marriages, man with mommy issues
Running with Scissors - (My pick and I took some major abuse over this one) - memoir, growing up in an insane household, issues encompass mental illnesses and homosexuality
The Shack - loss of a child, spirituality
Queen of the Road - married couple buys an RV and goes cross country for a year for an adventure from city life, kind of humorous, lots of martini recipes
The Christmas List - unscrupulous businessman reflects on his life
Dinner and discussion every other month - I love it = )
