This evening my husband and I made and important decision to be the host family for a child from another country to attend school in the United States. ASSE - International Student Exchange Program's is looking for families in the Antelope Valley (Palmdale, Lancaster, Quartz Hill, Acton & Rosamond) to host students. They have a variety of students from many different countries.
We are excited and have decided to host a young lady from Germany. We think that this will be a great experience for the student as well as our family. I had the fortune of being an exchange student when I was 16 and stayed in Japan. My stay was only for 6 weeks and I did not attend school full time, but it was an experience that I will never forget.
I strongly encourage anyone out there who would like to give back to the community and help out a student that wants to experience a new culture to give me a call. Many of the children are from Germany, Italy,Japan, Jordan, Morocco, Russia,Czech Republic, France and South Korea. This also gives you chance to experience a culture first hand without having to even leave the United States!
If you are interested in hosting an exchange student - please give me a call. They need host families in all 50 states. Students stays range from 1 semester (3 months) to a full year of school. You can read the profiles of the students that wish to come to the US to study and see which student would best fit with your family. ASSE also has a program so that students from the United States can also study over seas.
