What is there to do in Shell Knob, Mo?
As a REALTOR in Shell Knob, I am frequently asked what the Shell Knob community has to offer new residents. This is not a frivolous question, the Ozarks are unique and might not suit everyone.
Shell Knob IS unique. I know - everyone says that about their town, but you see, Shell Knob IS different - it isn't really a town or city. We have no legal standing, other than our Post Office and Chamber of Commerce. We are actually an area on the western portion of Table Rock Lake.
There is no Town Hall. We have no Mayor or other Shell Knob government. Most of the Shell Knob area sits in Barry County, but there is also a portion of Stone County. Each county has County Commissioners, but I digress. Most people move here for the lake activities, fishing and boating - or for the peace the Ozark Hills and Table Rock Lake offer - along with the lower taxes and cost of living. This is a fine area for retirees.
On the negative side for some, is that there is little to offer by way of night life, unless talking to the clerk at the local gas station counts. There is great food and adult beverages offered at the Steak Inn, but most customers are gone before 9 pm. The restaurant closes for a few weeks after Christmas - until Valentines Day. It is the 'Off Season' at Table Rock Lake.
The community is too small to support a theater or symphony, so residents drive an hour to Branson or Eureka Springs, AR for additional restaurants and entertainment.
New residents can keep as busy as they want in the winter in any of the eight different church organizations many activities; volunteering at the Senior Center; quilting groups; Thrifty Closet , Haven of the Ozarks animal shelter, VFW, The Eagles plus many more groups.
