Who Will Win The Pepsi 400 This Saturday?

Daytona International Speedway

Who is your favorite NASCAR Nextel Cup driver?  You don't want to miss the Pepsi 400 this Saturday July 7th at Daytona International Speedway.  160 laps of bumper to bumper and door to door restrictor plate racing on the world famous 2.5 mile tri oval.

This is just one of the benefits to Livin By The Beach in the Daytona Beach area.  There is nothing like the racing experience at the track.  To feel the pack of cars rush by you while standing only a few feet away, separated by a few cables and some fencing is an awesome experience.  I will be there on turn 4 with my son.

The race weekend began Thursday of this week leading up to the big race Saturday night at 8:00 pm.  See the full schedule below:

Pepsi 400 schedule

Thursday, July 5

10 a.m.: Rolex Series practice

1:15 p.m.: Rolex Series GT qualifying

1:45 p.m.: Rolex Series Daytona Prototype qualifying

2:30 p.m.: Busch Series practice

3:50 p.m.: Busch Series rookie practice

4:30 p.m.: Nextel Cup Series practice

5:30 p.m.: Busch Series practice

6:40 p.m.: Nextel Cup Series practice

8 p.m: Start of Brumos Porsche 250 Rolex Sports Car Series race (70 laps, 250 miles)

Friday, July 6

1:05 p.m: Winn-Dixie 250 qualifying (two laps, all positions)

4:10 p.m: Pepsi 400 qualifying (two laps, all positions)

7:30 p.m.: Driver introductions for Winn-Dixie 250

8 p.m.: Start of Winn-Dixie 250 race (100 laps)

Saturday, July 7

7:30 p.m.: Pepsi 400 driver introductions

8 p.m: Start of 49th annual Pepsi 400 (160 laps)

Here is how the season is looking so far being at the half way point of the series.

The top twelve:

•1.       Jeff Gordon -0

•2.       Denny Hamlin -156

•3.       Matt Kenseth -365

•4.       Jimmie Johnson -381

•5.       Jeff Burton -383

•6.       Tony Stewart -428

•7.       Carl Edwards -465

•8.       Kevin Harvick -507

•9.       Kyle Busch -573

•10.    Martin Truex Jr. -580

•11.    Clint Bowyer -627

•12.    Dale Earnhardt Jr. -628

If Stewart wins Saturday night's NASCAR Nextel Cup race, it will be his third consecutive Pepsi 400 victory, tying David Pearson's record. But perhaps more important, it will be his first victory of the 2007 season. A victory that is long overdue.

Another driver looking forward to Daytona is Kyle Busch, who was second to Stewart in last year's 400 before a caution on the white-flag lap ended any victory hopes. Busch was also in the mix for a victory in the 500 in February before being taken out in the big one on the front stretch on the final lap.

This race should prove to be exciting as it always is at Daytona.  We hope to see you at the races!

Ian-

Wearing my triple layer Nomex underwear - I say Lewis Hamilton!

Ok, so he's not entered, but if he was - he'd win for sure!

Flame on!

Mike - I am sure he would do well.  I don't know that he could handle the restrictor plates.  I wish they would just let them race!

More than just great rates
I am not a race fan but was in Daytona in the spring when the first race came through, my inlaws stay at ponce inlet so we went down to visit . My inlaws are race fans and had tickets so we drove tem to the track and picked them up after since it's a zoo near the track race day. It seems like people were enjoying themselves and very festive. We are heading to Ponce Inlet Wed next week for 8 days for a vist and will miss the race but I am sure all you race fans will have a great time!  Enjoy the race.....

Hi Ian! Did you read this may be the last Pepsi 400? The Speedway is thinking about bringing Coca Cola in and getting rid of Pepsi, it was in the News Journal last week. I work with Coke during the 500 doing security for Drivers at the Flea Market and the Coca Cola Speed Experience. Looking foward to see what the Speedway's final decision is on this. Enjoy the races! As far as who I want to win? Anyone not listed in the top 12 :). (I liked Dale Jr til he signed to Hendrick for next year)

Lysa - I haven't heard about Coca Cola coming in next year.  I like Coke better than Pepsi myself, but that doesn't have too much to do with their choices on sponsorship.
