The Oak Mountain area of Birmingham, Alabama, is located in North Shelby County including Greystone, Brook Highland and the area between HWY 280 and I-65. Oak Mountain State Park is the south border and the Cahaba River and Jefferson County line is the north border. This valley boasts beautiful large oak trees and in my opinion is one of the prettiest parts of the state. Students are serviced by both Hoover City Schools or Shelby County (Oak Mt High School) depending on where you live. This area is located only 10 miles from downtown Birmingham, but because of the popularity of the area, the commute (which you share with THOUSANDS of your neighbors) can be a challenge.
What was the Real Estate Market like in Oak Mountain area during November? There were 57 home sales in November '09. This was UP considerably from the 37 that closed in November '08. Prices ranged from $101,000 for a 2 Bedroom, 2 Bath condo unit at Horizon to $1,262,500 for a 3+ acre estate built in 2008 behind the gates in Greystone. The average sales price was $301,568 with sold properties getting an average of 94.32% of list (this is lower than other parts of Birmingham metro). Median price came in at $251,335. The average days on the market for sold homes at 99.
