Too Lazy to Work, Too Dumb to Steal: Get elected to Congress.

By
Real Estate Agent with 1st Action Real Estate

nelsonYears ago they used to say if you were 'too lazy to work and too dumb to steal' you went into politics.

Unfortunately after witnessing the shenanigans surrounding the recent debate over healthcare reform, it has become obvious that while they may indeed be too lazy to work, they have certainly honed stealing to a fine art.

suttonWhen asked why he robbed banks Willie Sutton is reported to have replied "Because that's where the money is." Today the money the banks have is chump change compared to the grifters working congress. When you can make off with $100 million just for voting one way or another, you've left the people who rob banks and casino's and armored trucks in the dust. You are in a world class of your own - and unless you get really stupid and put foil wrapped bundles of green in your freezer, you'll never see a day of jail time.

Of course that's just my opinion - I could be wrong.

Gene:  Just wanted to suggest a change to the title of your blog post.  Too Lazy to work, too dumb to steal, cannot get elected to Congress and need a hobby to stay busy ?  Write naive far-right ultra-conservative blog posts !  But... as you said... all of what you wrote is "just your opinion... and you could be wrong."  Could be wrong ?  Uh huh.  Now you've finally got it right.

Love it!  I really thought that the Congress would be more careful with their voting choices, since 2010 is an election year for them.  Hard to believe that they were not listening!  Hoping to vote in, all new people in 2010!

We'll see how many people are watching what they are really doing, and answer with their votes!

@ Fran:  Sorry Fran, but voting in an ALL NEW Congress makes about as much sense as taking away the licenses of ALL current Realtors, and starting all over again with ALL NEW Realtors.  I agree, there are SOME goofs in Congress... in EACH party.  But... the majority of them... do a great job, and deserve to be re-elected.

Really dumb far right ultra-conservative blog post? Moi? Seems I hit a nerve with the really old far left ultra-liberal gasbags.

Do you really think the system is working? Doesn't matter whether you're Republican or Democrat - Are you proud to point to the horse trading and back-room deals and downright bribery and coercion and honestly proclaim this is our government at its finest? Or do you only point fingers when it's the Republicans that do it? You don't need to answer that, I used to read your blogs. If you truly believe this is the best we can hope for from our elected leaders on both sides of the aisle, then you are a very scary individual - and I'm not wrong about that.

Fran - I agree. There will be some Dem's in real trouble over this. Trouble is, people have such short memories. But Obama is timing things for his own self-interest geared to 2012 and that's going to leave some of these folks hung out to dry. It's funny how people think their own Congressman is doing a great job but yours is screwing up. Well, the Republicans richly deserved to get a good shellacking in 2008 and the Dems are doing everything to prove they deserve one in 2010. The party in power will say or do anything to preserve that power until it becomes even too onerous for regular folks to stomach.

Gene, you've got it!  The dems are nothing more than a bunch of thieves and have been stealing for ages.  Of course they only target the working class.  Their goal is to get as many lazy arses, like the one above, on the DOLE that they will stay in power.  What the idiots don't realize is that the day of reckoning will inevitably have to come!  The reason?  We can't survive financially with handouts to the majority of the US citizens.

Gene,  You've hit not only a nerve but the facts.  Of course you fire a thief no matter how great an employee they are otherwise. It's insanity to keep them employed.

No matter how nice they dress or comb their hair - if they don't listen to the boss - they are history.  In case anyone forgot - WE The People are the BOSS.

Vote them out and ride the daylights out of anyone who is voted in to make sure they tow the line.  Watch them like a hawk - critize them when needed and let them know they serve AT THE PLEASURE OF THE PEOPLE!

Can you add too drunk not to know better?  I'm appalled by the YouTube video of Senator Max Baucus slurring his words and shouting down a fellow Senator during a drunken rant last week.  Didn't Max embarrass himself enough by hiring his girlfriend and taking her around the world on the taxpayer's dime  -- before he bothered to leave his wife?  These people in Washington are such a disgrace!

I guess Karen thinks that when Nancy Pelosi said she was going to drain the swamp, she meant she was going to clean things up rather than just make room for more criminals in Congress...

Gene- It is totally embarrassing that the greatest country on earth has a congress that acts so stupidly, arrogantly, that they think they know better what is good for us, that they think we won't care about their illegal activities - both sides, etc.

The problem that I find is that just like with Clinton, his numbers were down, people got mad, voted in a Republican congress, and then he shined and got re-elected  Because the people in this country don't know how the government works. You should see the radio stations- callers call in to answer simple questions they should have learned in school- like, how many branches of government do we have? What is the congress? They don't know that the President of our country is NOT a dictator ( well, didn't use to be) and that the congress has to pass the laws. They don't know that. So when we change in 2010- he will look great and get re-elected.

The only way to really change is to clean house, the entire house and congress, and start all over again,

beginning with term limits!

I have such a mixed response to term limits. I used to be a  card carrying term-limit supporter BUT... I've seen what it has done in California and it makes me wonder. It did accomplish the original purpose - which was to clear out the dead wood and the long established good-old-boy network. That was good. But it replaced them with a lot of people who haven't a clue, who come in with a very narrow focus or agenda that got them elected and it wiped out any institutional memory EXCEPT for staff and lobbyists. That means our state is now run by staffers, many of whom have been entrenched for 20+ years, and lobbyists and interest groups. SEIU, the teachers union and the prison workers unions effectively run our day to day business to the extent that our outgoing house speaker actually had to run to her office during budget negotiations to clear things with her union handlers. That is a true story.

On the other hand - a good house cleaning is definitely long overdue at the federal level. If held to 2 or even 3 terms I don't see how things could get any worse than they are now. Although I said that before Obama got elected too.

Nicholas - Thanks

Lane - even when you drain the swamp the leeches and bottom dwellers will survive - they just burrow deeper. Besides, Pelosi is hardly in a position to do that is she? Ahhhh California. We do produce some winners.

I do not think the problem is partisan in nature.  Both parties are guilty of this.  As I see it, there are two factors that contribute to this problem.  First is that the politicians are always raising money for re-election.  The solution for that is federal financing of campaigns.  This would make campaign donors irrelevant.  The second problem is that politicians are constantly pushing for money for their district or state.  Legislators can be bought off with the promise of helping their constituents.  This is what happened in the health care debate.  The solution to that is dollar limitations on the amount of federal money can be given to a district and/or state on a per capita basis.  The only exception would be disaster relief.  This would stop the unseemly horse trading.

Paul - you are absolutely correct that this isn't a bi-partisan issue. I like you solutions but don't know how you get to there from here. Politicians who raise these massive war chests will not voluntarily give them up nor will they vote to do it. I've also written many times about the earmarks and pork debate - it's wrong when others do it but by God my Sentor had better bring home the bacon or we won't vote for them next time. If allowed to continue as it is, eventually it will come to a point where the only rational answer is for another revolution.
