Forget New Year's Resolutions!  Happy New Year!

Goal setting success lies in life plans and behavior modification, not in making resolutions.

Early 20th-century New Year's resolution postcards

Set yourself up for SUCCESS not failure. Be Happy in the NEW YEAR!

Don't create unrealistic goals or aspirations which will dwindle after January and make you feel bad.  That feeling is a journey you do not have to take and is a choice.

Looking at 2010 and behavior for success, there are 3 concepts I learned from Shaquille O'Neal and his dad on a Tony Robbins tape which are worth considering.

Shaquille O'Neal  aka the "Shaq"is a basketball player with the NBA.  He makes $21,000,000 a year is 7' 1" and weights 325 pounds.  He played for Orlando Magic (1992-1996) Los Angeles Lakers (1996-2004)
Miami Heat (2004-2008) and  Phoenix Suns (2008-2009)

His awards include: 1999-00 MVP award, 1992-93 NBA Rookies of the Year award, 15 All-Star game selections, 3 All-Star Game MVPs, 3 Finals MVPs, 2 scoring titles, 14 All-NBA team selections and 3 NBA All-Defensive Team selections.  He currently rands 5th all time in points scored, 6th in field goals, 15th in rebounds and 7th in blocks.  In addition to his basketball career, O'Neal has released 4 rap albums, with his first, Shaq Diesel, going platinum.

It is my understanding from the tape I listened to, Shaq's dad asked him three questions each day which helped him excel to the level he is today.

1.  What did you learn today?

2.  Who were you nice to?

3.  How was I better today than yesterday?

When I think about those three questions, which I have been for many years now, I continue to grow learn and be a better person.

The three questions can be incorporated into your business plan by learning, being better than yesterday and helping others.  Simple Secrets of Success in my humble opinion!

My vision is to share the concept of "Who Were You Nice To" just like "Chicken Soup for the Soul."

We can create a culture of people looking to do a nice deeds every single day.

I am looking forward to learning and sharing with everyone in 2010 and navigating the Cosmic Cow Pie of life!

Have a SAFE and Happy New Year!  Who where you nice to today?

Carra, Love the questions for Shaq.  Especially #2 - Who were you nice to?  That is an area that I feel is lacking a lot - human kindness.  Great reminder!

Anna,

Thanks so much.. I love those 3 questions... Shae grew up having to answer all 3 EVERY day... her basketball friends had to answer them too and loved it when I picked them up as they knew what we were going to talk about in the car!  Happy New Year!

Carra,

My new years resolution is to play for the NBA and make $21 million a year. Failing that, I'll be back to selling real estate.

Ah, Carra. My New Year's Resolution for 2010 is the same as it was in 2009..which I HATE to admit...since I have obviously made NO PROGRESS in a year!

I need to learn to use a GPS. My riding buddies and I were lost once this past year for two hours and I had TWO GPSs and a map with me!  I came home and said to my husband, "There's something wrong with my GPS; all of my waypoints are gone!" He said, "That's MY new GPS; I haven't put any waypoints in it yet" so I replied, "Well, Where's MY GPS??" Turns out I had BOTH of them in my saddlebag, as well as a map. AARGH.

Worse than that...my riding buddy is HOPELESS. We call her "Wrong Way Renee" and when we are agreeing with her, we always have to say "Correct" and not "RIGHT" or she will turn right (with obvious results). We sure have had some grand adventures, though, and alot of laughs!
