Do you have your Real Estate Business Plan GPS set?

Charlene and I are getting ready to head to Eureka Springs Arkansas Saturday for a three night stay for working on the implementation of our business plan. I have never been there, and where we are staying is a cabin on a lake two miles outside of town. I recently had my built in GPS updated, so on Saturday morning I will program in my destination. But GPS systems do more than get you there. They can also tell you where gas stations are, and restuarants among other things. So it started me wondering, when we do a business plan what does it include? Do we just program in our sales forecast, marketing budget, and where the business is coming from. or do we add a bit more? Here are a few added features that my business GPS tells me to use.

How do I accomplish my goals in less time?  80 hour work weeks may get you there but life may pass you buy. How about increasing sales and have a 40 hour or less work week. One way to work smart is to divide your time up in two parts. First is at the $300 per hour real estate consultant job that gets you buyers, sellers, and time to negotiate. The other is the $15 per hour clerical work. Yes you have to do some. but lose control and find out how to use the web to spend less clerical time. An easy way is if you mail postcards, create 12 montly cards, upload them to www.Expresscopy.com, send them a database to mail to every month, and let them create a full color laminated stamped and addressed postcard for less than 50c a card. This may take 8 hours a year to do. If you need a project of any kind go to www.elance.com, put in your project and get multiple bids for your Powerpoint, logo work, whatever.

I want to make money for one special event every year. How many places do we say we would love to visit but don't. Is it Italy, India, national parks? Make a point to give all that work meaning by planning one vacation per year that is special. I am going to Italy nest year guaranteed. I haven't been there. Aren't we all tired of saying I am going to do something only to find an excuse why we can't? Time to ask your GPS where you are going, and do it.

The reason to be rich is so that you can afford to be generous. One of the Mantras of Ninja Selling based on the Fort Collins agency, The Group. There is nothing like writing checks for great causes. My big one is MD Anderson in Houston, what's yours? Don't stop there, get involved with a local group with your time too. The more you make the more you can give.

My body should be the temple of my spirit. Eat better food, it is the new luxury. Even better than the big car. Watch Food Inc., the documentary and you will believe. Find a yoga class, or Pilates, or a trainer, or all of them. I will work better if my body feels better. My customers will benefit, I will be happpier, and my kids will have me hopefully longer in their lives if I take care of myself and reduce my stress.

I am not in the real estate business, I am in the spiritual real estate business. This is not where I sell my brand of religion, it is to acknowledge that what we do is based on helping others first, and getting paid later. Is how we create our business plan making us better people? Are or goals based on never having to ask ourselves does this action have integrity up front? Being spiirtual, and honoring our clients should be automatic. As a child I use to think that when Jesus said "Blessed are the poor in spirit", he was taking pity on these people. As an adult I changed my belief to Jesus saying these people are the blessed because they are not so full of themselves. Emptiness just means we have room for growth. Let your business plan help you grow spiritually. This is a great real estate joy.

Those are just some of the examples. If you comment on this post, please share with Active Rain what you have programed into your business GPS. Make 2010 your best year ever in every way. Oh, when you are planning on using all the features on the Business Planning GPS, be sure and read the manual.

Joe this is one post I can relate too!  I've always seen real estate in a spirtual way - what a gift it is to assist folks in creating homes and being part of a larger community.  Nice to see another Ninja on the block!

This post is good food for thought for 2010. Featured in BananaTude!

Joe,

Two things jumped out at me. Bob and I have revamped our plan a bit for 2010 and we are hiring a $15 an hour part-timer to take care of the mundane.

Joe,  I love this post.  Great idea about navigating life.  I am also determined to do the travelling plans.  We are off to London & Paris this summer with the kids.  I love to travel around and hope to make this an annual thing.  I also enjoyed the doing work smarter aspect with different tools.  Best of all is the spiritual real estate concept.  I want to do the best for my clients without challenging my moral values!  All the best in 2010!  Michelle

Joe,

Interesting take on writing a business plan.

I'm leaving my business gps set where it has been and interestingly they include much of what you have in yours.

We have been hiring out some of the things that we've always done ourselves, traveling more, etc.  and selling real estate has never been "all about the money".  It's true that if I didn't get paid, probably wouldn't be doing it but getting paid to do it is the last thing I think about in a transaction.

Wishing you a very blessed 2010.

I just use the basic set of values I was taught as a child: Do onto others.... Respect, Honesty, and.... you get the idea! Thank-you for such inspirational and practical advice!
