Why Being A Little Pregnant Doesn't Work With Serious Realtors

Pregnant WomanHave you ever seen a woman into the eighth or ninth month of a pregnancy? In almost all cases there is no doubt what's going on. If she's just overweight and you are unsure as a guy, the right thing to do is to say "NOTHING" <Smile>.

But,

Being A Little Pregnant Does Not Work With Serious Realtors.

With a pregnancy test for women you either ARE pregnant or NOT. You cannot be a little pregnant. You know, lukewarm. With buyers and sellers they are either serious about getting the job done, or they want to play games and live in fantasyland.

Serious REALTORS are good business people. They will assist "a little pregnant" client to get off the fence. If not, they will not want to work with you as a client very long. That baby needs to be delivered and not stay in the oven for 24 months. It just isn't natural.

If you are a client, BE SERIOUS about wanting to move on to the next phase in your life with a move or investment. If you are REALTOR remind clients that you can never in reality be just a "little pregnant." Toes in the water timidly make sense for testing bath water or going into a swimming pool in late October, but NOT for real estate. Who has the time for "playing" real estate? If so, I would recommend a real fun game from Parker Brothers for Sunday afternoon with the family. It's called "Monopoly." Put all your houses and hotels on Park Place and Boardwalk and you will clean up. But being a "little pregnant" all parties will just end up with indigestion rather than the next step in the beautiful cycle of life.

What a great analogy!  Serious Realtors won't waste their time with clients like this, they cannot afford to.

Gary - I just made this very stark observation recently. Even within lead quality, there is a HUGE difference between those serious action takers and market testers.

Serious action takers give up their specific information readily while market testers - you could sense some hesitation in providing true and accurate information. Until they open up, yes, a little pregnant just dont work too long with real business people.

Gary - Nice analogy.  I remember a teacher of mine who used to say, "Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades."

Gary as usual you used a great analogy, I wasn't  sure what to expect but you delivered......lol.

Gary -  The home buying process can certainly be laborious for everybody involved.  A preapproval letter from the lender is the best pregnancy test of all and that is why I won't work with buyers until they can produce this doctor's note.

Gary, you have a way to get the point out on the table. This method will surely keep you from buying lunch for the Sunday afternoon lookie loos.

We have a couple of those that are very pregnant.  They just can't seem to design an offer that will successfully win; so committed to getting the best deal.    Were doing our best to encourage delivery.

Gary - lol, great analogy. I have some buyers that think they are preggers. I need to get them off the fence and make the plunge before they miss out on this tax credit! Happy New Years!

Gary - Great analogy for the process some buyers and sellers go through.   I often think some "little pregnant" buyers need to lose a home or two before they fathom what it takes to procure one.

The buyer that wants to offer too little to get a steal, or wait a little too long - they are just a little pregnant:-)

I do agree with you, mostly, but as you know, I had some very long term clients in the past two years.  Mostly not very time consuming, but one looked for 3 years, on and off, and bought at house for $535,000 and one looked for 2 and bought a house for $490,000.  In both cases, it paid off nursing the pregnancy until it came fullterm!!

Hi Gary....you are correct, there is no thing as be a little pregnant... often do Realtor act this way, they take courses then never follow through, Buyer make an offer then get Cold feet...be ready and able to give birth.

Cheers

We're definitely not tour guides or potential babysitters... My husband and I will be part of the "empty-nesters" this next year... I focus on screen clients before racking the miles on the vehicle...

That is a great one.  I have similar experiences as a mortgage broker - people who wonder what they could qualify for and havce no intention of buying...

Gary, working with motivated buyer's and seller's is quite easy if you know what questions to ask and whom to eliminate.

Interesting point of view.  I never quite thought of real estate and pregnancy together.

Why take 24 months (pregnant like an elephant) when you can be on with the business of moving on with your life and dreams in much less time.
