Talking with your lender should always be your first step. Don't shy away from them. Today, more than ever, they are willing to work with you to find a beneficial solution for each party. For the most part, if you desire to stay in your home, they will do their best to find a current solution.
The intervention by the Government is providing new opportunities. Even if you spoke with your lender a few months ago, and the lender said that they could do nothing to help, call them back today. They may now be able to offer a program that wasn't available earlier.
