Detroit's Real Estate Decimation - Commercial Disaster

Michigan has been among the hardest hit of the states during the real estate and foreclosure crisis of past years.  Once proud downtown buildings now stand in shambles as a testament to the bad decisions of days gone by.  I felt that my readers would find these photos from Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre Photography interesting, and yet sad.

So all-in-all, most of the rest of the country is in great shape considering!

CharitaI am saddened about the plight of my hometown.  Used to be the 'place to be'.  Of course every now and then I still Google the demolition of the landmark JL Hudson Building (nostalgia I guess)

Charita:  The rest of us hurt for your situation.  I have traveled in and out of Detroit on business in years past - This is soooo sad!  Our prayers and thoughts are with you!

Steve...I was born in Detroit--didn't live there long--we moved to Royal Oak-Shrine Parish area; did take the bus downtown many times; it IS very sad to see just what has happened all over our areas here in the SE Michigan area. the unemployment rates, the home ownership losses, the demise of 2 of 3 Big Three Automotive Co.; what is as startling is the splinter effect in the neighboring Macomb Co. area--our place here in Michigan. Thanks for your prayers--they are needed, along with some forceful cutting on the small business taxes from Lansing. What is also interesting to me, is that a fellow Keller Williams REALTOR sent those photos out on the web through AR.

Well I saw some of these on another blog this morning and I was frankly shocked and saddened so much that I felt I should repost to show people in other places that although many places have suffered during the crisis, most of us have had nothing like this to deal with!

CharitaSteve I live in Birmingham, Alabama now and have been here for over 20 years, so I'm not feeling Detroit's pain so much.  But my immediate family is still there. Detroit is one city that I would definitely like to see make a comeback in a major way.

I don't think any city took it on the chin like Detroit.  As the car producers went so did detroit.
