Link Diversity and Making the Most of ActiveRain

What is link diversity and how does the practice of linkbuilding from authoritative sites help your website or blogsite rank higher in the search engine results?

MosaicAs an ActiveRain member you already know how important and powerful it is to keep active in the blogosphere, but do you know that creating a mosaic of consistency and diversity of inbound links to your website or blogsite is a fundamental part of web success? But this doesn't mean that you can't borrow the authority of sites like ActiveRain many, many times to support your sites.

The search engines look for diversity of inbound links but diversity can be interpreted many ways. Lucky for us, the search engines can continue to count inbound links from the same authoritative site especially if the inbound links point to a variety of pages on a site.

Hint:  Don't always point to your index or landing page when blogging or other linkbuilding.

Using good anchor text or "linking text" is another important aspect of diversified linkbuilding. Using relevant phrases for creating links that match the content on the page that the link is pointed to goes a long way in building trust with the search engines. This also increases the likelihood that the link will be indexed and counted.

If your site has only a few pages to link too, you may find yourself at a disadvantage for making the most use of authoritative resources like ActiveRain. Having a site with many pages that are optimized for different real estate keywords is very beneficial for numerous reasons beyond the ability to get traffic, leads and build search engine authority.

For example, the owner of www.carlsbadfinehomesandestates.com has hundreds of optimized pages with specific keywords in the page titles to point links for niche specific searches. Over time, this site can become truly authoritative for hundreds of Carlsbad real estate search terms effectively undercutting the authority of Carlsbad real estate websites that are only optimized for a few search terms.

Using a real estate technology that automatically produces many useful pages with relevant and themed categories in which to the point powerful links is one strategy that will allow you to get the most benefit from your blogging and linkbuilding efforts.

Thanks for the great post Anita. I would suggest that anybody who wants to learn more simply go through Google's own adwords tutorials. There you can learn the basics of selecting keywords, designing ad words ads, and how optimizaiton works. Even if you don't plan on purchasing adwords you will have a whole new appreciation for how search engines really work.

Hi John - Utilizing Google Adwords to learn about what keywords are being searched is a good idea. My advice would be to target keywords that get decent traffic, but the most competitive terms are obviously the toughest to win organically and the most expensive to target with PPC. Having a turn key technology that automatically targets the entire range of keywords from non-competitive to highly competive makes the most sense to me though.

Julie & Gerry - I understand that my target audience does not have time or the inclination to go deep sea diving in SEO, so I appreciate the postive feedback on my style of presentation.

Betty & John - I tend to cover different aspects of SEO for real estate agents on a regular basis so check back often.

Paul - SEO minded yes, but my real estate technology and the training resources we provide to our clients allows Realtors to spend more time on their real estate business than figuring out how SEO works.

Anita ~ Great post!  It's always good to know a little of this and a little of that.  But I agree, spend your energies where they are most needed and appreciated.  Leave the clutter to somebody else.  Delegating is my New Year's Resolution.  I love the colorful mosaic picture :)
