Most people just know that life in a college town has a certain ambiance about it that sets it apart from the humdrum. There are more entertainment options, a younger mindset, arts, music, plays, sports, political discussions, and educational opportunities for the locals, etc.
All put together, a college (or university in Fayetteville's case) adds up to a tremendous economic force - thousands of students who pay tuition and need housing, jobs, and food; salaries for faculty and staff; maintenance and capital improvements; transportation; restaurants and much more.
Now Forbes.com has published its list of the top 20 Most Valuable College Football teams. Right there on the list is our very own Arkansas Razorbacks - #17 to be exact.
Fayetteville is used to being on many Best Places to _______ (you fill in the blank). Though this isn't the first time the Razorbacks have been on the Most Valuable College Football Teams list, it is the first time I was aware of it.
I know, of course, that having the University of Arkansas here contributes greatly to the quality of life in Fayetteville. I also know Razorback fans are zealous in their support for the team. I just hadn't thought that much about the economic part. So, I say, "Long live the Razorbacks!"
