It's and interesting tast setting your goals for any year but 2010 is challenging for those of us in the real estate business. I truly believe you or your company are either moving forward or backward there is no setting still. However with that said I think if your business in 09 with equal or even within 10% of 08 that you could say you moved forward. What do you think?
So as you get the crystal ball out and try to figure out how to set your goals for 2010 do you raise the bar or keep it the same as 09? I'm not sure what the answer is but for me I'm going to divide my business into segments. Fri st I'm going to take a look at my personal business and look at doing a small increase in the number of closed transactions in 2010 over 2009. By doing that I can keep my production level up in an uncertain Market that looks like the average sales price will decline slightly.
Concerning my company business I'm going to increase the volume and transactions goals. You might ask why since I'm not moving my personal bar. Well the answer is simply I think in 2010 as a broker/owner you've got to invest more time and money in you agents. Look at your staff and help them figure out how to grow their business. Recruit some new agents who have been in the business for less then 3 years and show them how to grow their business for the future. For those of us who have been in the business for 30 years we know the best way to build a business. It's not how it was done in the 2000's order taking!! You need to learn how to put deals together and work through the problems not just discard them because they take work or because you don't have a clue.
2010 could be the year you set your company on a path the will pay great rewards over the next 5-10 years.
Happy New Year
