It was reported in the Brunswick Beacon that Brunswick County was the 37th fastest growing county in the country during 2009. The population grew by 41% between 2000 and 2008. A large percentage but small number. Cencus Bureau numbers released last week estimate the population at 103,160. Growth during the period was estimated at 30,017. During the recent downturn- the population grew 4.2% from 2007 to 2008.
Brunswick has many reasons for growth. The cost of living is very low according to many that have moved here. Taxes for the entire year are often less than those of 2 months from where they left.
Myrtle Beach and all the amenities it offers is about 30 minutes away. The city of Wilmington NC is about 50 minutes north of the southern most tip of Brunswick County. Golf courses are near by no matter where you are in the county.
The weather is fantastic. We have the four seasons but the changes are subtle. Mostly we can say - NO SNOW.
The coastal communities are not large cities but small towns. There are four islands along the coast of Brunswick with fantastic beaches. The islands have mainland communities. From the South Carolina border going north they are Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle Beach, Oak Island, and Holden Beach. Don't look for high rise hotels on the beaches as there are a total of two and unlikely to be any more. Condos are not prolific and are a maximum of three strories. Quaint and 'beachy'.
Most of all the people are friendly! Come on down! SSHhhh-- let's keep it our secrete!
